About Center for Victims of Torture
The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture and violent conflict. We provide direct care for those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. Since our founding in 1985, CVT has: Rehabilitated over 46,000 torture and armed conflict survivors through direct healing. Engaged in post-conflict community building to support survivors of torture, working in the past in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, and today with refugees and internally displaced people in Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya and Uganda. Pioneered research in torture survivor rehabilitation to better understand the effects of torture and how best to heal survivors.
