About this opportunity**

This exciting new post is part of the British Red Cross’ new Volunteering and Youth team within People Services. This new team, created as part of a recent transformation programme, will set the future direction for volunteering and youth engagement at the BRC and support the entire organisation to ensure volunteers and young people are engaged in meaningful ways that work for them and help deliver our strategy.

As the Volunteering and Youth Support Manager, you’ll lead the team responsible for attracting, recruiting, deploying and supporting volunteers and young people throughout the organisation, commission support from colleagues to ensure that British Red Cross volunteering and youth engagement offers are marketed appropriately and able to attract a diverse audience.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, you’ll prioritise competing organisational demands for volunteers and young people, instil flexibility and dynamism within your team enabling them to succeed while adapting to rapidly changing demands, including disasters and emergencies and be accountable for the delivery of high-quality volunteer management support across the organisation, ensuring that our people have the skills to always deliver a high-quality volunteer and youth engagement experience

This role might be for you if…

  • You have proven experience of delivering complex programmes of work often with competing priorities and changing requirements, from ideation through to continuous improvement
  • You have experience of operating at a senior level within a volunteering function, or organisation engaging significant numbers of volunteers
  • You have the ability to manage and make recommendations about a portfolio of activity in a dynamic environment, with often changing and competing priorities
  • You have the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and develop clear and compelling strategies, inspiring and motivating both volunteers and staff without directing authority
  • You can demonstrate knowledge and passion for volunteering / volunteer management best practice
  • You are able to translate complex issues to different audience groups, and find insightful solutions to complicated problems
  • You have strong IT and MS office skills as well as Google Analytics, Trello and other collaboration tools (e.g. Teams)
  • You are data savvy, with a thorough understanding and experience of creating and using consumer insight, both data and research driven

About the Team

You’ll be leading the new Volunteer and Youth Support function within the wider Volunteering and Youth. This team will provide recruitment, deployment and retention support, based on prioritised need. A key aspect is the delivery of high-quality volunteer management support across the organisation, ensuring that those responsible for volunteers, have the skills to always deliver a high-quality experience for them. The function also houses our award winning Volunteer Support Line a vital and valued service to support our volunteers wellbeing.
