The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide.

These positions are located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy within the Central Maintenance and Repair Cell of Supply Chain Service.

The Vehicle Technician reports directly to the Chief, Transport Officer, Central Maintenance and Repair.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Vehicle Technician will be responsible for the following duties:
• Services and repairs vehicles in accordance with vehicle manufacture standards and schedules.
• Carry’s out the Refurbishment of heavy vehicles and equipment.
• Ensures that all relevant safety procedures have been followed when repairing and fitting replacement parts.
• Conducts vehicle inspections such as pre-summer and winter inspections on UN owned vehicles assigned to various units.
• Produces reports to document all servicing and repairs.
• Assists in identifying, diagnosing, and rectifying various faults.
• Assists with the identification of required parts.
• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
• Performs any other tasks as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job – Specific Qualification

Valid Driving License for buses and heavy trucks is desirable.

Work Experience

At least three (03) years of professional experience in transport operations management is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Experience in carrying out major refurbishment works on vehicles and equipment is desirable.

Experience in metal work fabrication is desirable.

Experience working with UN or similar International Organization is desirable

Experience in operating forklifts and engineering equipment is desirable.
