Here at Human Appeal, we have an exciting opportunity for a US Senior Accountant to join our team**.**

You will join us on a full-time basis for an initial 1-year fixed term contract with a view to progressing into a permanent role. In return, you will receive a competitive salary .

Human Appeal is a faith-based charity that aims to abolish poverty by providing humanitarian aid, sustainable development programs and championing advocacy for our beneficiaries worldwide.

As US Senior Accountant, the successful candidate will play an integral role in ensuring that the charity’s suppliers, staff, field offices and other stakeholders are paid appropriately and for ensuring that income is properly recognised in the systems by supporting the wider Finance team to deliver and maintain an efficient, effective and accurate accounting system. They will also be responsible for ensuring accounting system output provides a firm foundation for the production of monthly management information and annual audited financial statements, and maintaining all associated internal controls, policies and procedures in line with the Finance Manual and accounting regulations and associated legislation. All in order to safeguard the charity, deliver value for money, save costs, mitigate risk and prevent misappropriation of charity funds. We are ideally looking to appoint somebody immediately to this role.

Key duties and responsibilities of the US Senior Accountant:

  • Creating and analysing weekly/ monthly financial reports, including cash-flow, budgets, and forecasts
  • Conducting monthly review of all management accounts and respond to stakeholder department enquiries.
  • Preparing end-of-year financial statements as a basis for the annual audit.
  • Managing the relationships with third party providers and auditors.
  • Preparing stakeholder reports.
  • Providing any necessary accounting updates to stakeholder departments.
  • Appraising the financial status of grant applications and assessing risk levels.
  • Preparing grant reports detailing risk and approval options.
  • Developing robust financial controls within the finance function.
  • Contributing to system & process recording and improvements
  • Assuming a senior oversight role in the Month End & Year End Accounts closing and external audit.
  • Acting as first ‘port of call’ (via phone, email, post or in person) regarding all income & expenditure related enquiries, including disputed items, before escalating to the Head of Finance if necessary.
  • Being fully flexible in the provision of support and cover for team members as required
  • Performing all activities in a timely and efficient manner
  • Abiding by the organizational policies and procedures

What we’re looking for in our US Senior Accountant:

  • Educated in a Finance discipline with an Accounting Qualification
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a relevant role
  • Experience working in the charity sector is desirable
  • Computer savvy, with knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Financial Accounting Systems
  • Experience using Salesforce is desirable
  • Fluent written and spoken English is essential. Additional languages such as Arabic, Urdu, are desirable
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about the international development field

  • Safeguarding bright futures for more than 22,000 vulnerable orphans in 9 countries. Our one-to-one sponsorship programme has a built-in school attendance requirement while covering the cost of food, housing, medical care, and learning materials
