Who we are looking for:

We seeking to recruit a result-oriented professional to support quantitative and qualitative studies in the Horn of Africa with specific experience in South Sudan. This is a critical role in ensuring the quality of research outputs and bids to secure our competitive advantage and improve performance. The Research Assistant will be responsible for supporting Research Manager in proposals development, filed work and report writing. S/he they will be in responsible of field management and control the quality of data collected during fieldwork. This position will be based in Juba, South Sudan.

Job description

The position may require occasional travel to certain field locations within South Sudan. The key tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Research Manager during proposal writing and bidding processes.
  • Collaborating with the Research Manager, preparing and reviewing project budgets, implementation approach and work plans.
  • Support the Research Manager in developing and localizing field tools and training manuals/materials and participating in training activities.
  • Supervise and oversee the translations of project documents i.e. data collection tools, verbatim and qualitative data into local languages when necessary.
  • Mobilize the necessary data collection workforce to ensure that all project results are achieved in timely fashion and high quality.
  • Supervise data collection staff (qualitative and quantitative) on data collection tools, methods, protocols and other activities in the field.
  • Ensure data quality control process during data collection is implemented in all surveys conducted.
  • Prepare regular field monitoring updates and reports regarding the ongoing work in the field.
  • Ensure research deliverables meet the client and HACOF set quality standards and requirements.
  • Responsible for safety and proper use of the facilities and equipment assigned to facilitate field activities.
  • Perform with diligence any other assigned duties by the line manager and/or HACOF management.

Qualifications and key requirements

  • Holder of an undergraduate degree in social sciences, statistics, economics, agronomy or equivalent qualifications or evidence of equivalent experience,
  • Three or more years of experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, particularly in carrying out data collection, overseeing data collection and managing of field teams in South Sudan.
  • Must be a SOUTH SUDAN national with clear knowledge of the local context and experience in fast-paced research, monitoring and evaluation consultancy work in South Sudan,
  • Strong team working qualities and interpersonal skills such as oral presentation, communication and networking skills.
  • Excellent skills and experience in managing and delivering a range of research projects at the coordination level,
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills to ensure work is effectively prioritized to meet deadlines,
  • Ability to work under own initiative with a proactive approach to issues and a problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use standard computer packages, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis software packages (World, PowerPoint Internet and emailing, SPSS, Excel, Nvivo, etc.).
  • Good communication and command in in English language. Arabic and other South Sudan languages are an added advantage.
