Regional Humanitarian Context Assessment and Foresight Analyst

ROLE PURPOSE

The humanitarian context assessment and foresight analyst provides the research, assessment and guidance that allows SC country and regional offices to base their decisions on sound data and clear trends and planning based on plausible developments. The role is fundamentally forward-looking and predictive in nature. The analyst works with regional and country teams to identify critical information gaps in context monitoring and delivers on-request analytical pieces (such as scenarios, actor analyses, key trends analyses), with a systemic (non-sectoral) perspective and forward-looking approach, to fill these gaps. The role is primarily focussed on the analysis of political, economic, social and environmental information to facilitate foresight-based programming that is politically, socially and environmentally informed, early warning and early action, both in contexts of natural hazards and complex emergencies. All this analysis should be related back to the effects of the elements assessed on children’s rights.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Master’s degree in international relations, political science, peace and conflict studies, international security, social sciences, journalism, or other demonstrably relevant discipline.
  • In-depth understanding of humanitarian protection, human rights, child rights, humanitarian access and conflict/peacebuilding approaches.
  • At least seven years’ demonstrated experience in delivering high-quality conflict/context analysis in government, academia, international organisations and/or INGOs.
  • Knowledge of environmental and climate security debates and trends in the LAC context, as well as potential related advocacy opportunities.
  • Excellent writing, editing and analytical skills and ability to formulate well-targeted policy and programme recommendations, demonstrating the ability to summarise key information in data-scarce environments and to make complex concepts and findings understandable to a large audience.
  • Excellent knowledge of the history and current context of LAC (political, social, economic, environmental, security).
  • Excellent communication skills, including good public presentation skills and the ability to summarise complicated information into succinct explanations, messages and talking points.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish, with the ability to produce complicated and detailed analysis in both languages.

We offer a competitive package in the context of the sector.
