Regional Humanitarian Information Management Coordinator

ROLE PURPOSE

The regional IM coordinator supports countries to strengthen the management of information to facilitate appropriate emergency decision-making based on the best available analysis. These decisions may include geographic or sectoral gaps, as well as analysis to support decisions in other functions such as security/access, needs analysis, response strategy and similar. Produce and update information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a storyline; develop advocacy materials including posters, presentations and other visual materials. The role is primarily focussed on operations and the analysis of quantitative, qualitative and geographic data to underpin analysis and real-time humanitarian prioritisation and decision-making.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in information management, information systems, social science (emphasis on data and analysis), statistics, economics, geography or another field clearly related to the responsibilities of the position. Significant relevant experience in information management and an undergraduate degree may be an alternative.
  • At least four years’ progressively responsible experience in information management, data management, geographic information systems, data visualisation, or other related area, preferably in the context of humanitarian emergencies in more than one country.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian information management tools and data sources.

  • Experience with handling confidential data and demonstrated understanding of different data collection methodologies. Experience developing databases and repositories for collaboration and group use.

  • Familiarity with information management software including SPSS, N-Vivo, Epi-Info, Arc-GIS, QGIS, Map Info and/or other geographic information systems, as well as humanitarian IM tools such as KoBo Toolbox and Open Data Kit.

  • Familiarity with design software include In-Design and Photoshop, with demonstrated experience using these to develop infographics.

  • Communication skills sufficient to translate large volumes of data and information into key messages, summarised talking points and visual products.

  • Willingness to learn and address sensitive issues related to care and prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment incidents in humanitarian contexts.

  • Experience synthesising quantitative and qualitative information for crisis overviews and response plans.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish.
