This position can be based in: Panama, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua or Peru.

Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Environmental Mainstreaming Adviser

ROLE PURPOSE

Lead the development of SC’s disaster risk reduction (DRR) portfolio in LAC, ensuring the application of the most innovative approaches to child-centred DRR and anticipatory action. Develop resource mobilisation and new business development opportunities with traditional donors and national and regional mechanisms and development banks to finance SCI’s DRR and humanitarian programming.

Work with humanitarian and development programmes and colleagues and the regional climate change adviser to ensure mainstreaming of environmental approaches into programming, not only mitigating the environmental footprint of SC’s work but also identifying programme opportunities to develop environmental benefits through the implementation of programme activities and country/regional priorities.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Masters’ degree or equivalent in disaster (risk) management, social sciences, environmental sciences/management, geography or other demonstrably relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating both mitigation of environmental impact and opportunities to generate environmental enhancements into multi-sectoral humanitarian programmes, development activities and community-based DRR.
  • Broad experience in supporting/leading/integrating on DRR environmental activities, preferably in an NGO sector proving sound theoretical and practical understanding of DRR and environmental issues.
  • Experience supporting countries to adopt anticipatory action approaches.

  • Project management experience, varied experience of using monitoring and evaluation methodologies.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish.
