Description

arche noVa – Initiative for People in Need is a non-religious, independent non-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) with Headquarters in Germany. We work in the field of humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and development and primarily focus on the WASH sector.

Globally, arche noVa currently works in twelve countries. Since 2013, we have been implementing projects for IDPs, returnees and host communities in Northern Iraq and Kurdistan (Diyala, Sulaymaniyah and Kirkuk Governorate).

arche noVa provides WASH services in IDP camps in Sulaymaniyah, Kalar and Khanaqeen. Over and above that, we also provide WASH services and support outside of camps by rehabilitating WASH facilities in schools and health centers, as well as improving water and sewerage systems in villages. arche noVa is further expanding on these WASH support activities through a more sustainable long-term and holistic approach focused on community engagement, capacity building and livelihood diversification in the agricultural sector, yet always continuing to keep WASH at its core.

arche noVa co-leads the WASH Sub-cluster in Sulaymaniyah Governorate and the WASH Working Group in Northern Diyala Governorate.

Objectives of the position:

To ensure the compliance of arche noVa humanitarian and development projects and programmes with the international standards and best practices in terms of the gender-related curricula.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a Gender Impact Analysis, as proposed under the BMZ project to inform the future programming of the project and the wider humanitarian community in Iraq.
  • Develop SOPs in the field of Gender, GBV, and protection to develop arche noVa’s capacity in Iraq and be adequately prepared to adjust to the humanitarian and development requirements in the country. This might include aspects of MHPSS and Health in general.
  • At proposal development, work closely with the MEAL unit to facilitate the incorporation of the gender mainstream component to ensure the consistency and quality across logical frameworks, results matrix or other monitoring and evaluation aspects required by AN and donor standards;
  • Develop the MHM component of arche noVa WASH sector activities in the field, with the focus of the impact and sustainability.

 


Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the gender-related components of the humanitarian and development  projects in Iraq in particular and in Middle East in general;
  • Hands-on experience in humanitarian project practice in recovery/ stabilization contexts;
  • At least two years’ experience in international NGOs in management positions;
  • Experience of training design, training delivery and facilitation in topics relevant to the position;
  • Well proven experience of field-based mentoring and building the capacity of communities and partners;
  • Experience in stakeholder liaison and representation;
  • Understanding of safeguarding and protection principles applied in humanitarian work;
  • Experience in designing, undertaking and/or supervising gender-oriented needs assessments is desirable;
  • Track record in GBV, MHM, and other related components of the  project proposal development, including theory of change design, is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor degree or higher in Gender, Social Studies, International Relations, Sociology, or another relevant subject;
  • Proven analytical skills including capacity for contextual gender analysis and gender strategy formulation;
  • Proficient in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel);
  • Excellent report writing skills in English language;
  • Very strong grasp on Humanitarian Protection and Accountability to the affected population;
  • Excellent verbal communication and written skills in English; Kurdish and Arabic is an added advantage.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills and ability to communicate technical content to varied audiences including people with limited literacy.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines;
  • Flexibility, adaptability and willingness to take on tasks and learn to apply new health and hygiene methodologies in community settings;
  • Interpersonal and cross-cultural sensitivity and experience;
  • Ability to treat individuals with fairness and respect, demonstrating sensitivity for ethnic, cultural and gender differences;
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas, sometimes under challenging security circumstances.
