Stichting Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to prevent child exploitation, to remove children from exploitative situations and to ensure that these children can continue their development in a safe environment. Terre des Hommes focuses on sexual exploitation of children, the worst forms of child labour, child trafficking and migration, sexual and reproductive health and rights and on child protection in humanitarian crises. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia and East Africa. In Asia, Terre des Hommes Netherlands works in Cambodia, the Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, India,and Nepal.

Project Coordinator

General characteristics

Projects are initiated in response to organisational policy for specific areas of attention. Activities within the project may include research, capacity building, lobby and advocacy, campaigns and collaboration.

Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) is seeking an experienced Project Coordinator (PC), who will be based in Manila, the Philippines. The PC will lead the project team in the implementation and management of a project that aims to have a stronger systems and response to Online Child Sexual Exploitation (OCSE) in Taguig City, Angeles, Pampanga and Cebu, Philippines.

The PC will collaborate with the Consortium members (ECPAT Philippines and Bidlisiw Foundation) and other service providers (e.g. Consultant/s) in the selected geographical project areas to address and respond to OCSE-related gaps (e.g. education, income generation, health, other specific risk and vulnerability factors etc.) to ensure the project can play an active and vital role in developing and coordinating efforts, towards effectively implementing partnerships and interventions. The candidate will be required to liaise with TdH country and regional staff, stakeholders from government, law enforcement, CSOs and the private sector as well as with children, families and communities.

Objective of the function

Responsible for coordinating the project, in accordance with the preselected goal(s) with regard to lead time, budget and quality.

Position in the organisation

The project coordinator is subject to hierarchical leadership from the Manager and gives (functional) leadership within projects.

Result areas

1. Realise projects

Result: Implement project/s according to the objectives of the project plan and ensure that the appropriate teams are functioning effectively.

  • Work professionally within TdH NL policies and codes of conduct, including those related to child protection/safeguarding, confidentiality and ethical practice.
  • Work closely with the project and Country team to ensure goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Oversee project and procurement management and help prepare and monitor budgets and spending.
  • Prepare and issue all appropriate project paperwork (e.g. MoUs, ToRs etc.).
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports.
  • Possess a strong commitment to social justice and development of quality services within the field of child sexual abuse, exploitation and violence.

2. Improve service

Result: Improve project design to reflect developments and ensure contacts are maintained.

  • Establish and maintain active and positive relationships with stakeholders, including, government, local authorities, community groups, beneficiaries, CSOs, NGOs, etc.
  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment and information.
  • Assign tasks to internal teams and assist with schedule management.
  • Ensure that beneficiaries’ needs are met to a high standard as projects evolve.
  • Participate in team’s performance reviews.

3. Improve workflows

Result: Improve work processes to ensure quality of service remains secure and employees are able to achieve the goals.

  • Track and analyse project performance (costs, performance, schedules etc.) and report to the management on changes, being able to suggest the improvements to all the above.
  • Monitor the project(s) progress and respond appropriately to any issues that arise.

Knowledge and skills

  • Academic (university) education at bachelor level
  • High level applied or academic thought and working ability
  • Knowledge of procedures and guidelines relating to the work environment and relevant networks.
  • Knowledge in the field of project management.
  • Knowledge of and insight in the target group and developments in society.
  • Skills in writing concrete project work plans and performs these tasks independently/seeks efficient assistance required to complete this task.

Experience and education

  • Bachelor or Masteral degree political science, social science, development studies, International studies or a related field is highly desirable
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in project coordination or a similar role, from conception to delivery. Preferably for an INGO, NGO, or governmental organisation, in the related field of child protection and safeguarding.
  • Fluency in written and oral English is required.
  • Proven knowledge in the field of project coordination and management.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Solid organisational skills, including those related to time-management, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating.
  • Knowledge of and insight into the field of sexual abuse and exploitation of children, child trafficking and migration, etc.
  • Skills in writing concrete project work plans and implementing them. Independently/seeks efficient assistance required to complete this task.
  • Ability to work well with and contribute positively to diverse teams.
  • Working knowledge of Google Office tool set (e.g. Drive, Spreadsheets, Slides, etc.)
