Brief description of the organization

Yazda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014 in response to the genocide committed by the self-declared Islamic State (“IS”) against the Yazidis and other communities in Iraq and Syria. Since its inception, Yazda has worked with local and international partners to provide Yazidi survivors, IDPs, and refugees with humanitarian, accountability, and advocacy services in their post-genocide recovery. Yazda has been working in Iraq since October 2014 and operates out of the main offices in Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and out of the Sinoni office in Sinjar in Nineveh Province. Yazda is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States and is registered in Erbil, Baghdad, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, and Australia

We are offering a part-time position that is available for qualified GPs (general practicians), within the program titled: NCD-MH integration to PHC in collaboration with SV (Stichting Vluchteling). the medical doctor will evaluate and manage adult chronic and acute medical problems in the mobile medical unit as well as treat moderate and severe mental health cases in collaboration with the psychiatrist.  The medical doctor will ensure that NCD cases are under the target control. if needed refer to secondary health care.

  • According to NCD-MH programmatic guidelines; Performs a complete physical exam and records findings, Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed, and Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • The medical Doctor will collect a complete past medical history and ongoing complaints. Assess and performs a comprehensive clinical examination of the patient using diagnosis test available in an appropriate way. He/she will assess mental health status with particular attention to anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders, somatic disorders, functional complaints, and psychotic disorders. Those cases will be referred to the mental health team.
  • Refers suspected GBV cases to the MH team according to the referral criteria.
  • Prescribes appropriate treatment and plan a proper follow-up (if the date of the next mobile clinic is known)
  • Ensure a proper hand overwritten for the transfer of the patient. Advise patients how to give the feedback referral (by phone or coming to the next scheduled mobile clinic date)
  • Supervise the respect of the code of medical ethic
  • Ensures adherence to appropriate triage systems where patients are consulted and prioritized according to their needs.
  • applies medical knowledge and skills in carrying out outpatient consultations, ANC and Family Planning consultation, prescribing the necessary treatment, respecting protocols, and professional confidentiality
  • Ensures all infection prevention control protocols are implemented and adhere to general compliance on standing hygiene standards
  • under the supervision of the project manager adhere to organizational quality standards, daily feedback, and other management related
  • Carries out admission, surveillance, and follow-up of patients (i.e., assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency situation or deterioration) and share vital health updates with family members.

 

 


Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine
  • Trained GP in mhGAP
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualifying experience with at least 1 year work experience as a clinician in a Humanitarian/emergency context
  • Background/familiarity with Emergency.
  • Good knowledge and background in Sexual reproductive Health (ANC and Family planning
  • High confidentiality, respect, and non-discriminatory attitude
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills
  • Fluency in Arabic and/or Kurdish (written and spoken)
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
