Dorcas

The recent developments in Ukraine have resulted in a major humanitarian situation. A large number of people face conditions of war, are internally displaced to the West or have left the country.

Dorcas has 2 offices in Ukraine, 1 of them in Transcarpathia, located in Uzghorod near the Hungarian border. This region in the West of Ukraine is safe so far because no fighting is taking place in this part of the country. Our country office team and the partners in this area have started an emergency response which they hope to upscale to the Zaporosjni region (were the other office of Dorcas is located) as soon as the situation would allow this.

Dorcas is working in Ukraine in 2 the following programmatic areas: Social Empowerment and Protection mainly focusing on Elderly and Children, Inclusive Entrepreneurship and Humanitarian Assistance and Recovery. Since 2014 Dorcas has been involved in the humanitarian response to conflict-induced needs in Eastern Ukraine, amongst others with funding from the Dutch Relief Alliance (2016-2018).

Dorcas’ current emergency response focuses on the sectors: Food Security & Livelihoods, Shelter/NFI and Protection. When markets allow so Dorcas aims to also utilise the cross-sectoral multipurpose cash modality.
