Housing Coordinator

Job Overview: The Housing Coordinator will work with all Oakland departments and supervise Oakland’s Housing Specialists in Reception & Placement, Anti-Trafficking and Health & Wellness programs, including oversight of housing for refugees, immigrants and victims of crime. The Housing Coordinator will gain a better understanding of landlord relationships in their counties and collaborate with these organizations to open up conversations with new and former landlords. The Housing Coordinator will lead advocacy efforts on affordable housing options for refugees with state, county and city officials. In addition, the Housing Coordinator will build relationships with local realtors and work with them in finding new affordable units for IRC participants. The position will report to the Resettlement Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

· Directly supervise and support IRC Oakland’s Housing Specialists by providing guidance and ensuring day-to-day tasks are completed.

· Collaborate with local housing providers (landlords, realtors, emergency and transitional shelters, etc.) to gain a better understanding of current housing landscape and market. Coordinate discussions with new and former housing entities.

· Conduct ongoing outreach to realtor and realtor associations. Provide informational trainings on IRC Oakland’s programs and work with realtors to have them identify available and affordable units.

· Conduct ongoing outreach with new landlords and property managers, building strong working relationships with the goal of increasing access to housing.

· Collaborate with the Data and Quality Assurance Coordinator to ensure accurate data is tracked on housing efforts.

· Develop digital and hard copy materials on :

o Housing availability

o Housing FAQ: client-facing

o The process on accessing and paying for utilities

o Basic household supply checklist

o Information on accessing social services

· Work with HQ staff on continued analysis of housing in California.

· Represent IRC Oakland in all housing-related meetings with HQ, city, county and state officials.

· Be a strong advocate to stakeholders and the community on housing needs for refugee and immigrant populations.

· Collaborate with Intake team on applicants in need of housing assistance.

· Ensure Housing Orientation programming/workshops are developed and delivered to clients.

· Collaborate with Logistics and Donations team regarding Housing Set Ups

· Ensure Housing Services are documented on ETO and Digital Case Files

· Collaborate with Oakland Resettlement staff to implement process of early identification of housing needs for incoming arrivals

· Oversee Housing Interns and Volunteers

· Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s or Associate degree required. Professional experience in lieu of education will be considered.

Work Experience:

· Minimum of 4+ years of relevant professional experience required.

· Experience working with realtors and property managers

· Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations preferred.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by IRC’s clients is desired; including, Spanish, Dari, and/or Pashto.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research and problem-solving purposes.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software such as Microsoft Dynamics a plus.
  • Management of staff, interns and volunteers

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional work out of partner agencies’ offices.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Key Working Relationships:

· Position Reports to: Resettlement Manager

· Position directly supervises: Housing Specialists; may supervise casework assistants & interns and volunteers supporting Housing Specialists

· Indirect Reporting: Health & Wellness Coordinator, Anti-Trafficking Coordinator
Other Internal and/or external contacts: HQ, local ECBOs, stakeholders
