Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the Logistics Officer and the direct supervision of the National Fleet Officer in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis and repairs of our client cars, trucks, forklifts, crane, generators, and other machines owned by or under the responsibility of our client.

Role objectives

  • Being a very important role in the project, the head mechanic, is the over all in charge of the asset maintenance of the Sub-office and the TWRP equipment. This includes a variety of equipment as follows: 2 sets of Barges with 2-150hp engines, 2 sets of Skiff boat with 2-150hp engines, 1 crane truck, flatbeds, forklifts and pickup trucks.

  • Prepare monthly maintenance report of the actual status of each asset.

  • Supervise the work being done by the assistant mechanics. Provide quarterly performance evaluation report and submit to the National Fleet Officer.

  • Provide daily record/inventory of the mechanic tools and supplies to be submitted to the National Fleet Officer every end of the month.

  • Perform maintenance and repair the Yamaha and Honda outboard motors and the reverse osmosis machines to manufacturer’s guidelines to maintain the safety and reliability of the units.

  • Follow the guidelines/checklists/verbal instructions for consistent safety, maintenance, and cleanliness of all vessels.

  • Coordinate with boat/barge, crane and forklift operators to ensure safe operating conditions, apply preventative maintenance and malfunction repairs quickly and efficiently.

  • Operate crane, forklift or drive trucks as needed by our client operations.

  • Perform secondary tasks include building maintenance and coordinate with and supplement for the landlord’s own maintenance program.

  • Fill out vehicle/vessel log sheets and other necessary paperwork.

  • Diagnose machines and present a plan to repair and parts to procure to supervisor.

  • Ensure that any work-related injury will be documented in an incident report on the same day of the incident and with immediate notification to manager.

  • Clock in and clock out each day and for lunch, complete paperwork for time sheets to ensure accurate and timely payment.

  • May be occasionally required to work on weekends.

  • May be required to spend time off island while operations are based off island.

  • Strictly adhere to our client’s policies and procedures including prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and promotion of a respectful work environment.

  • Undertake work related travel at the request and approval of the COM.

  • Other duties as assigned and needed to support the program objectives.

Project reporting

  • To the National Fleet Officer

Key competencies

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree with four years of relevant work experience; and/or

  • Completed secondary education with six years of relevant work experience.

  • Skill certification from technical or trade school is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with a variety of engines such as diesel, 2-stroke, 4-stroke, gasoline, electric etc.

  • Experience with building and repairing vehicle and official electrical systems

  • Experience as a crane operator with safe driving record preferred

  • Valid Driver’s License

SKILLS

  • Good communication skills

  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle diagnostics and mechanical systems

  • Great deal of manual dexterity and fine motor skills

  • Resourcefulness, strength and agility

  • Good interpersonal skills, diligence and dedication
