This is an exciting opportunity to join Amnesty International’s International Secretariat, which operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. We campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism; and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards. We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty movement globally, fostering Amnesty’s contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.

JOB PURPOSE

To lead on all aspects of the global language production planning, coordination and delivery at Amnesty International. To provide language production expertise and support, while feeding into the Language Resource Centre’s strategy to ensure it is aligned with local, regional and global requirements.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To lead on all aspects of translation production, and ensure effective planning, coordination and delivery of translation and language services to Amnesty’s global departments.
  • To promote the integration of language strategy in project planning through participating in relevant team meetings regarding upcoming projects and acting as the single point of contact for language queries, building an awareness of key dependencies for a smooth translation service, including timelines and quality of original content.
  • To lead on building and maintaining networks of freelance translators and revisers, including arranging contracts, negotiating fees and ensuring prompt payment in line with IS procurement policy.
  • When required, to provide cover for other language coordinators to ensure the smooth running of Amnesty’s translation function.
  • To contribute to any LRC-led language evaluation and review aimed at tailoring Amnesty’s language function to support the organization in achieving greater human rights impact and participation through language, while ensuring adherence to the highest internationally agreed professional standards.
