We are currently recruiting a Global Humanitarian Coordinator to join our Programs team.

This is a remote, 12 month parental leave cover position, open to candidates based in the US, UK, France and RI countries of operation.

About the Opportunity.

As part of the Emergency and Humanitarian Access department (EHAD), you will support the global humanitarian director (GHD), regional and country level emergency focal points (EFP), and will work closely with country programs in the implementation of RI emergency preparedness and response standards, and coordinating and standardizing the efforts. You will work with the GHD in implementing key parts of the departmental work-plan including staying informed on humanitarian crises and responses, supporting the design, implementation and advancement of key Humanitarian program initiatives, as well as general project management and administrative support. You will directly support emergency response operations across RI country offices where and when needed.

Your role will be key in supporting the humanitarian and emergency responses in RI countries of operation, as well as surveillance and support to anticipate the emergencies, preparedness for response, and supporting the response operations, either remote or through deployment. You will also support the GHD in delivering trainings related to RI standards and other humanitarian initiatives as required.

Your responsibilities will be

  • Lead on humanitarian department initiatives, including capacity building and training, reporting, and global emergency surveillance
  • Monitor emergencies in RI’s operational areas, and potential areas for response
  • Ensure country teams regularly report and communicate on ongoing emergency responses
  • Maintain request for global emergency funds and support country offices in requests to access seed funding
  • Represent RI in chairing Start Fund, InterAction and other forums
  • Strategize ways to improve the organization’s approach to monitoring, tracking and reporting on humanitarian emergencies and responses
  • Draft presentations, trainings, reports and graphics
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings and workshops, designing and analyzing surveys, maintaining action plans and following up with project team members
  • Conduct desk research and produce short briefs for Humanitarian Director
  • Provide surge capacity, support to field teams, and emergency response support
  • There may be a requirement to occasionally travel to the RI office, in the country in which you are based

About You.

You will bring the following experience and skills.

  • Substantial experience with program management
  • Master’s Degree in international development, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, event-management and program/project management skills.
  • International or Domestic (US) Program Management & Humanitarian experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 40-60%, and to fragile environments, if required.
  • Ability to prepare reports and provide information to management in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, positive manner with diverse clients and staff.
  • Demonstrated research, writing and editing experience.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
