ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews seeks a Chief of Party for an upcoming USAID-funded project that aims to address politicization of the media in Georgia for improving citizens’ access to unbiased, quality content and information.

The Chief of Party will provide guidance and leadership; supervise program personnel, financial management, and administration; and coordinate with USAID and other media stakeholders in Georgia to ensure that Internews leverages existing resources, avoids duplication, and complements other media development initiatives. The position will be based in Tbilisi, Georgia.

*Note: Hiring will be contingent upon receipt of funding.*

LOGISTICS

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many of Internews’ offices are closed or partially open, and staff are working remotely. Depending upon the COVID-19 situation, this role may also function remotely. Ultimately, this position will be based in our Tbilisi, Georgia office. The successful candidate will be based in Georgia, or able and willing to relocate to Georgia.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

Strategic

  • Provide strategic leadership to staff, partners, and industry leaders in Georgia;
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with a wide array of stakeholder organizations and ensure that implementation is responsive to the needs of partners and beneficiaries;
  • Design and execute innovative and forward-looking solutions that benefit the informational needs of the Georgian public;
  • Serves as a public face of the project in Georgia and primary point of contact for the USAID in country mission;
  • Provide support as necessary for developing new relationships and business initiatives; and
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

Operational

  • Oversee organization and implementation of all project activities, as well as project monitoring and evaluation to ensure effective implementation and to measure project impact;
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable local laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
  • Draft and edit project reports and other project documentation in collaboration with Internews staff and according to award stipulations;
  • Ensure the project is in compliance with all cooperative agreement rules, requirements, and regulations as well as with Internews’ internal policies and procedures; and
  • Serve as the primary budget authority over the project, responsible for ensuring all costs charged to the project are allowable, reasonable, and correctly allocated.**QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR**

  • Deep understanding of the information ecosystem in the region, including start-ups; the nascent industry of platform-based content makers and influencers; and data-analytics and media sustainability experts/companies in country and the region is highly preferred.

  • Regional experience working on digital and/or digital first content development, audience and community engagement strategies, and/or data driven content and business models for media and content producers that strengthen their financial viability is highly preferred.

  • Experience working effectively with platform-based content producers, media service and advocacy organizations and bodies, various types of partners (i.e., research and audience-analytics companies), and local government counterparts is strongly preferred.

  • Four or more years of experience leading complex and innovative projects, or similar position with a strong reputation for developing excellent collaborative working relationships.

  • Experience with USG-funded projects is strongly preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to creatively problem-solve and provide ethical management.

  • English fluency required; Georgian proficiency and other regional languages highly preferred.
