ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Under the supervision of the Director of Financial Reporting, the Finance Reporting Manager supervises a team of four staff with primary responsibility of managing internal and external reporting for direct project expenses and serve as a subject matter expert for project/award reporting. This position will also have significant involvement in preparation of annual financial statements, regulatory reports, and select management reporting, in collaboration with other members of the Finance and Accounting Department.

The Finance Reporting Manager is a member of the accounting management team and is looked to as a leader in the department for process improvements, workload balancing, and other collaboration. Additionally, this position is expected to coach, mentor, and develop staff.

LOGISTICS

Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, or partially remote. This is a remote-based role; our ideal candidate is based in the Pacific time zone.

This position has an anticipated closing date of March 23, 2022.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including effective performance feedback, training, appropriate task delegation and otherwise empower employees to perform their jobs and meet deadlines.
  • Provide oversight, direction, and workload balancing to the employees on the reporting team to ensure successful completion of tasks and deadlines for the unit.
  • Oversee and review core team tasks including, but not limited to: preparation and submission of award reports, invoicing and accounts receivables monitoring, maintenance and reconciliations of purchase orders, leases, and other commitments within the ERP, recording of budgets and budget modifications, recording of cost share and associated reporting, and budget vs. actual reports.
  • Serve as primary point of contact to funders regarding financial reporting follow-up.
  • Execute the monthly revenue recognition process.
  • Oversee and/or prepare internal reports for program and Internews management teams, including review and investigation of discrepancies.
  • Prepare other annual regulatory reports, including US Census Annual Services Report, US Census Report of Organization, and Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts.
  • Support the Enterprise Risk and Field Office team during funder audits by providing general ledger information and reconciling amounts reported on funder financial reports.
  • Serve as a subject matte expert on technical GAAP and USG regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • A minimum of 6-8 years of previous accounting experience, including 2 years of fund accounting with working application of OMB circulars A-122, A-133 and 2CFR200.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Credit Monitoring Analysis (CMA) certifications or equivalent required.
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Unit 4 ERP, Salesforce, and other resource management software.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a team, including mentoring. Experience supervising remote teams, preferred.
  • Experience working for an international organization and/or the non-profit sector strongly preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and oral and written communication skills to effectively present reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, accomplish complex work in order of priority.
