Communications Officer for Youth Leadership for Democracy

Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLed) is a project of The Asia Foundation and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that aims to increase civic engagement to strengthen democratic governance among Filipino youth.

The Communications Officer, under the supervision of the Chief of Party, will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the program’s Communication Strategy, Communication Plan, and oversee the Social Media Content Plan
  • Provide insights and research, analysis, and recommendations on the latest innovative approaches and platforms for the program’s target audience
  • Conduct regular brainstorming meetings with the Assistant Program Officer for Communications to strategize content development for social media, website, and other platforms
  • Provide communication support to YouthLed’s key programs and objectives centered on youth leadership, youth coalitions, and civic education
  • Monitor the implementation and ensure compliance of the program and its project partners on the communication strategy and approved branding and marking guidelines set by the donor agencies
  • Provide editorial, layout, design, and strategic inputs on all reports, publications, knowledge products, and public-facing materials
  • Manage communications-related administration and logistics requirements of the program

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Development Communication, Mass Communication, Communication Arts, Development Studies, Social Sciences, etc.)
  • At least four years of experience working in a similar role, preferably in the development sector, with at least an intermediate knowledge of Philippine governance, education, human rights, democracy, and youth participation
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with local and international stakeholders, government officials, youth organizations, private sector, academe, and civil society organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Filipino and proven ability to adjust communication styles for different platforms (Knowledge in another Filipino language is a bonus, but not required)
  • Advanced knowledge in creating content and managing social media accounts, websites, and other platforms
  • Advanced skills in writing, editing & proofreading, and layout & design (familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc. is an advantage)
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in governance, democracy, civic participation, and youth engagement is an advantage.
