Background

While millions were forced to flee their homes, children across Ukraine remain in the midst of armed violence. Through our emergency response, War Child is supporting local partners in providing protection, psychosocial support and education to children, families and communities in Ukraine, Moldova and Romania.

War Child is offering a scientifically proven effective and cost-efficient Can’t Wait to Learn education solution. This offers children the opportunity to learn to read, write and count through a digital game, created with children to reflect their world. Can’t Wait to Learn will be added to the national Ukrainian digital school-programme for grades 1-4 in close cooperation with the Ukrainian ministry of Education and Science.

Your Challenge

You are a dedicated humanitarian, communicator, and storyteller. You will support the Ukraine emergency response team and the Can’t Wait to Learn Ukraine project team, as well as our local partners. You will be responsible for developing and implement of impactful communication plans, ensuring the delivery of quality communication content in line with brand and project requirements, and supporting communication capacity building of local partner organisations.

You will report to the Communications & Advocacy Director and the Can’t Wait to Learn Programme Manager, coordinating closely with the Communications and Advocacy team as well as the Can’t Wait to Learn project teams.

Your Responsibilities

Develop and implement communications plans

  • Support programme teams in the selection of priority communication stakeholders and the development of effective messaging.
  • Develop communication plans for the emergency response in general and the roll out of the Can’t Wait to Learn education programme in particular.
  • Implement communication plans in collaboration with the programme teams, local partners and the Communication & Advocacy team.

Production of communication content and materials

  • Plan and manage the creation of photo, video design and presentations for professional stakeholders and local partners as well as the general public.
  • Conduct and facilitate communications visit to Ukraine and countries where the Ukraine emergency response programme is implemented.
  • Support War Child’s European teams by providing content for marketing and fundraising, propositions for private as well as institutional donors.
  • Ensure War Child’s child safeguarding policies are fully adhered to and all communication materials and products are in line with War Child brand book and donor requirements.

Support of local partner organisations

  • Advise and train local partner communication staff in storytelling and content production.
  • Make partner produced content is available to War Child as well as other response partners.

Internal communications

  • Provide input for Ukraine situation reports (sitreps).
  • Provide content for Work Place and other War Child internal communication channels.
  • Coach programme and partner staff to present in TamTam and other war Child internal events and opportunities.

Your Profile

  • Degree in communications, journalism, language and literature, public relations or information management, or another relevant area of study.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in international humanitarian or media houses, with knowledge of humanitarianism and international relations.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and intercultural skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills; some understanding of Ukrainian or Russian.
  • Capacity and experience in communication advice, news writing, designing, etc.
  • Ability to create and translate ideas and opportunities in content.
  • Strong communication skills including presentation preparation and delivery.
  • Dynamic team player and a supportive collaborator with strong organisational and negotiation skills.
  • Flexibility, hands-on mentality, and high motivation.
  • Affinity with War Child’s mandate, mission, and core values (Impact, Creativity, Inspiration and Integrity).

Our offer

Depending on the duty station, local contract with salary and secondary labour conditions based on the country’s salary scale and T&C will apply.

Location: any country where War Child Holland has its offices. The successful candidate needs to be eligible to work in that country. Preference will be given to local candidates.

Contract: War Child offers a 6-month contract with the intention to prolong after that.
