OVERALL PURPOSE:

The survey will serve as a baseline for FH and a final survey to wrap up Medical Teams PRM grant. It will measure prevalence of communicable diseases; vaccine coverage; maternal and child health knowledge and health seeking behaviors; uptake of and attitude towards family planning; infant and young child feeding practices including exclusive breastfeeding; knowledge of key hygiene practices to prevent communicable diseases; and overall community well-being.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Expectations of the consultant are outlined broadly in this agreement. This role with Medical Teams is a dynamic one and undertaken in a resource-challenged setting, thus this position requires flexibility. The broad outline of activities offered below recognizes that details may change in order to address needs identified in the field.

Activities enumerated below are to be undertaken remotely between September 1 15 October 2022, with possibility of extension. The consultant will report directly to Medical Teams HQ, MEAL Advisor, Jenny Perry.

The consultant will receive survey specific guidance from Jenny Perry, MEAL Advisor.

The consultant will serve in the role of Survey Consultant for a total of 1.5 months. The consultant will be flexible, able to manage time; and, be prepared to tackle other tasks commensurate with role, and level of experience, on short notice.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Feedback on sampling methodology and sample frame
  • Updated analysis plan / indicator tabulation plan
  • Selected village mapping document for the data collection, with final check by MEAL Officer.
  • Optional: MEAL focal points and Enumerator Supervisors training presentation on standardized data collection procedures and how to avoid common errors when conducting surveys.
  • Raw dataset in Excel for the completed questionnaires
  • Preliminary survey results document and summarized power point presentation
  • Final survey report in English. Confidence intervals to be reported for each indicator.
  • Original, editable versions of any charts or graphs in Excel or PowerPoint

SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:

  • Survey Planning
  • Review sampling methodology, ensuring design has sample sizes sufficient to generate a 5% margin of error and 95% confidence interval per settlement and in total.
  • Develop sampling frame from list of households in each camp.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Respect the given timeframes for submitting the datasets, preliminary and final report to Medical Teams.
  • Update existing analysis plan, as needed, and share with the in-country MEAL focal point and HQ MEAL Advisor for review.
  • Conduct initial data analysis and provide brief written summary and PowerPoint presentation of preliminary finding
  • Present initial findings to MEAL Advisor and relevant Bangladesh team members.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis and compare with prior national and local surveys as relevant.
  • Incorporate conclusions and recommendations developed by Medical Teams Bangladesh country office team.
  • Draft full survey report with relevant charts and data visualizations and submit for review by HQ Health and MEAL Advisors.
  • Complete the final report based on the feedback from Medical Teams Advisors. The final report should include conclusive remarks and recommendations based on the findings of the survey. It will then be reviewed and signed off in-country and by HQ Advisors.

CONSULTANT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate degree in: Public Health, Epidemiology, Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Management or Community Development Studies with proven experience in quantitative household survey data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting KAP and/or KPC Surveys.
  • Experience using Epi Info or another statistical software for statistical analysis
  • Experience producing statistical analysis and reports for maternal and child health programs
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English.
