JOB SUMMARY
To be a proper role model and provide adequate supervision, guidance, structure, and behavior management to all clients in the Residential program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Serve as a positive role model for youth in our residential care programs
- Intentional effort to provide opportunities for youth to enhance their skills, abilities, and interests
- Provide active supervision of youth by engaging in activities that are of interest to them
- Plan and facilitate activities and daily routines
- Crisis intervention with youth through verbal de-escalation techniques
- Engage in, assess, and document youth activities (shift logs, incident reports, behavioral management logs, databases, etc.)
- Provide support to youth, their families, and ancillary service providers
- Provide transportation in agency vehicles for youths’ community-based needs and activities
- Attend team meetings and provide verbal and written input
- Maintain confidentiality within all written and verbal communications
EXPERIENCE
Must be;
- Willingness to complete training through Lad Lake’s traineeship program, bachelor’s degree preferred
- Ability to demonstrate patience and empathy to build rapport with adolescents who use aggression as a coping mechanism
- Assertive, self-confident, and sensitive in working with teens and staff – trauma-informed.
- Organized and dependable
- Possess a valid driver’s license, without restrictions, and have a good driving record
- Demonstrate social, emotional, and intellectual maturity
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must be or be willing to be vaccinated for COVID-19 to be considered for this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to be patient and understanding of life’s difficult situations; ability to search for and recognize the good in people and situations; ability to stay calm and de-escalate situations where people are tense and frustrated; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; working knowledge of computers and MS Office; ability to multi-task and use time effectively and efficiently; demonstrated sensitivity towards cultural, ethnic, and disability matters.
Physical Demands: Duties require possible physical activity while engaging with youth in the program. In rare situations, staff may be required to use physical de-escalation techniques to intervene if staff or clients are in danger of being physically harmed. Ability to lift 30 pounds. Driving is an essential function for this position.
