Position Title: Workshop Facilitator, CORE Group Partners Project

Hiring Organization: World Vision US, to be paid from the US

Project Background

The CORE Group Partners Project (CGPP), a USAID-funded polio eradication project, conducts community-based activities designed to strengthen supplemental polio immunization, routine polio immunization, and surveillance of acute flaccid paralysis, COVID-19, and priority zoonotic diseases in nine countries: Ethiopia, India, South Sudan, Nigeria, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Angola, and Niger. The project operates through the CORE Group Secretariat model, which coordinates a group of international NGOs in each focal country. Activities are implemented by individual US-based PVOs and local partners and overseen at the country-level by national secretariats. The project operates through more than 20,000 community volunteers who act as community mobilizers and promote childhood immunization, provide health education, and are active members of the community-based surveillance system. CGPP has pioneered several key polio eradication strategies including independent campaign monitoring, cross border collaboration, and the inclusion of civil society in polio eradication.

Purpose of the position

The CGPP will hold an in-person workshop in Mombasa, Kenya from March 19-26, 2023. The workshop will be attended by Secretariat staff from all nine countries, plus the Washington D.C.-based Head Quarters (HQ) team, for a total of approximately 40 people. The workshop facilitator will work with the HQ team to develop the agenda, then lead the in-person workshop to manage processes towards achieving key defined outcomes.

Specific tasks and time estimated (Total Time ~80-90 hours)

  • Work with the HQ team during planning meetings to create and finalize the workshop agenda (~8 hours).
  • Create detailed facilitation guide with discussion questions, key learnings, and deliverables (~5 hours).
  • Design each session, in collaboration with the planning team, to create energizing, interactive processes that support and encourage connection, sharing and learning among country teams and other stakeholders (~10 hours).
  • Travel in-person March 18-26, 2023 to Mombasa Kenya to facilitate the workshop
  • Provide a comprehensive list of supplies and create a room design/set-up to maximize engagement and to create a conducive learning environment (~2 hours).
  • Facilitation of workshop, including set up: Sunday afternoon, March 19 to Friday afternoon, March 25 (~50 hours).
    • Facilitation will also include: icebreakers, sharing and managing ground rules for the workshop, engaging participants, managing airtime and ensuring equal participation across the attendees, adjusting agenda content and workflow as the week progresses, re-designing the agenda and/or sessions as needed to accomplish the workshop goals and to meet the deliverables.
  • Debrief with HQ team daily on flow of the workshop, evaluation of outcomes, deliverables, etc. to inform future workshops and meetings (~5 hours).
  • Prepare a proceeding of the workshop and submit all materials to the HQ team (~8 hours).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in workshop facilitation.
  • Able to manage topics and participants well to adhere to the set agenda.
  • Establish a conducive and safe environment for sharing.
  • Able to create focus amongst the group and maintain objectivity.
  • Effectively manage the group decision process and work towards deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree desired.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ working experience in public health.
  • Experience working within the context of polio eradication projects.
  • Relevant experience in life coaching, workshop facilitation, and/or leadership.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience in developing country contexts.
  • Experience working with non-governmental development organizations (local or internal).

Required Languages: English language

Travel: The agenda preparation will be done remotely. Travel to Mombasa, Kenya will be required March 18-26, 2023.
