Job Title: Workplace Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Adviser

Reports to: Head of Workplace Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (based in Dublin, Ireland)

Liaises with: Managers and staff across the organisation

Equality Advisers across the organisation

Other members of the HR team

External consultants

Other organisations in and outside the development and humanitarian sector

Job location: The successful candidate will be based in Nairobi, Kenya (candidates must be legally entitled to work in Kenya at the time of application) and will be required to travel to other countries where Concern operates up to 15% of the year.

Contract: 2 Year Fixed Term

Job Purpose: With a global remit, working as part of the global HR Directorate, the Workplace Equality Diversity and Inclusion Adviser is responsible for implementing some of the key actions around training and communication in Concern’s Workplace Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. Sensitive to the cultural diversity of Concern’s contexts, the job holder will work with stakeholders across the organisation in progressing Concern’s ambition for workplace equality, diversity and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In consultation and co-operation with relevant Concern colleagues:
  • Design, develop and deliver workplace equality, diversity and inclusion training modules and inputs for Concern staff – both on-line and in person.
  • Design and develop short training modules for other Concern colleagues to deliver with their teams in order to reinforce learning, and for staff who are unable to participate in on-line learning.
  • Design and develop resources and materials to communicate Concern’s workplace, equality, diversity and inclusion values, and to promote discussion and learning in team meetings.

This will involve engaging and working with external contractors.

  • Be responsible for the internal communication and promotion of Concern’s workplace, equality, diversity and inclusion values; good practice from across the organisation; and relevant resources. This will include managing an on-line space for workplace equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Organise and facilitate consultation workshops with staff on particular topics, as required.
  • Provide training and administrative support to other people development initiatives led by Concern’s Learning and Organisation Development Team.
  • Provide administrative and facilitation support to staff resource groups and networks focused on workplace equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Organise whole organisation events and actions to highlight and celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion such as for International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
  • Raise any issues or suggestions regarding workplace equality, diversity, and inclusion learned when delivering staff training sessions etc with appropriate staff/in appropriate fora, in order to promote improvement.
  • Identify and promote external training programmes, webinars and resources with a view to enhancing employee understanding and practice in the area of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Identify external trends and recognise best practice to increase diversity and promote equality and inclusion amongst Concern’s workforce.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures relevant to workplace equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Build and develop good sustainable relationships with all stakeholders, working collaboratively with them to achieve common goals.
  • Up-hold and promote Concern’s values, including our workplace equality, diversity and inclusion values.
  • Accept, advance and pursue any new objectives or responsibilities assigned by the Head of Workplace Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Skills and Experience Required:

Essential:

  • A proven commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • A degree/masters and 7+ years’ experience working on the promotion of equality.
  • Excellent analysis of power, and understanding of the issues which people from the range of groups which experience inequality and marginalisation face.
  • Extensive experience of group facilitation and developing and delivering training.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and social media skills.
  • Ability to research and design awareness raising materials.
  • Ability to work with a range of stakeholders collaboratively, in a conscientious and inclusive way.
  • Ability to deal with difficult and challenging conversations.
  • Solution focused with the ability to question and think creatively.
  • Good Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Experience working with Concern or another non-governmental organisation.
  • Empathy and understanding of Concern’s values and goals.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Desirable:

  • Fluency in written and spoken French.
