The main purpose:

The Woman Empowerment and Social Specialist (WESS) is expected to look after the need for social development of beneficiary women and their families and to contribute to creating an enabling social environment that makes the graduation strategy for beneficiary women implementable, considering local gender conditions. One of the main tasks of the WESS is to analyse gender situation in the working areas and identify measures to be taken to remove factors impeding socio-economic rights of the women beneficiaries. S/he will work to engage in advocacy to remove obstacles and create a women friendly environment. The WESS will be devise a system for reporting incidents of violence against and harassment of women, related to both conditions in the work sites and in the family context, and facilitate that required action is taken, including counselling victims of violence. The WESS will work to support the establishment of linkages between service providers and beneficiary households for public services essential for family welfare and facilitate mobilization of social capital in support of beneficiary women. The WESS will apprise existing childcare arrangements of working beneficiary women and give recommendations for necessary improvements.

Educational qualifications:

Master’s degree in any social discipline. Further education or training on social safety net/ poverty reduction will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of working experience in the development sector, with at least 3 years in similar positions
  • Demonstrable knowledge on social protection, rural development, gender mainstreaming, poverty alleviation, and working with donors and development agencies
  • Experience in high quality report writing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other relevant software

Experience of working with Local Government Division (LGD) will be preferable

Tasks and Duties:

  • Support program development and proposal writing for public and private donors, such as conducting research on issues that could be developed into Woman Empowerment and social Programs WESP and participating in brainstorming.
  • Attend meetings with donors and potential donors related to WESP.
  • Track and support the drafting of reports, coordinating meetings and presentations, and other correspondence to donors, as assigned. This may include program development and fundraising for women’s economic empowerment, women’s climate leadership, gender inclusive approaches to climate change, and girls’ education.
  • External Representation: Represent SRO at meetings and other forums and speak knowledgeably about SRO and WESP to a broad range of audiences.
  • Public Events: Workıng with public and staff events related to WESP.
  • Program Support: Write, edit, and proofread program-related documents and correspondence, including women’s economic empowerment, gender, and climate change programming and girls’ education, as needed.
  • Assessing the nutritional status of women beneficiaries and their family members and take an active role in developing nutrition campaigns.
