We ensure that inclusion approach is adopted in all our programmes so that women, people with disability and other excluded communities are able access our Programme.

B. Job Summary:

ActionAid seeks to hire an Engineer for an upcoming project to be based in Kabul and provide services in various provinces of Afghanistan to implement WASH, Watershed and other small mitigation projects. The candidate will plan, design, guide and supervise the Engineering aspect of small mitigation projects (culvert, protection wall, irrigation channel rehabilitation, access road rehabilitation) and watershed projects to create work opportunities as well as create productive assets and contribute to disaster risk reduction. The Engineer will work with the programme Team to support project implementation and provide technical support (design, implementation and monitoring) to ActionAid.

C. Duties & Responsibilities:

i. Technical Support:

  1. Promote and implement the Watershed and small mitigation projects
  2. Participate in Programme exploratory and support visits

ii. Programme Design & Implementation

  1. Prepare funding proposals for upcoming opportunities in the relevant technical area
  2. Prepare Cost effective technical design and BoQ
  3. Ensure that all work are inline with the technical specification during the design stage
  4. Develop and implement Technical SoPs for all WASH, watershed and Mitigation projects

iii. M&E

  1. Basic Understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation and Leaning
  2. Document Good practices and prepare learning documents for projects with a construction component
  3. Write Donor reports for the assigned projects

iv. Capacity Building:

  1. Assess training needs in the team and provide training based on the needs
  2. Provide Coaching and technical supervision of Staff

D. Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil and structural Engineering or Environmental Science with 5 years’ relevant experience, Post graduate degree holders with 3 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Project Management experience in a humanitarian and protracted setting.
  • Past experience working with the displaced population will be an advantage.
  • Experience working in projects supported by UN agencies is preferred.
  • Fluency in English both verbal and written is a precondition.
  • Knowledge hydraulic Engineering and on-farm irrigation water management practices
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MS Office.

E. Others:

ActionAid seeks to create a safe and transparent working atmosphere in all its dealing with community. Candidate’s knowledge and commitment Safeguarding (PSEA, SHEA and Child protection) will be an added advantage.

The Position will be based in Kabul with frequent travel to the field. Kabul has very limited social opportunities and movements due to the context.
