Nomura’s Investment Banking division provides array of advisory and capital-raising solutions to corporations, financial institutions, governments and public-sector organizations around the world. Our global teams act as geographic, product and industry specialists, with a focus on domestic, regional and cross-border collaboration in M&A, DCM, acquisition finance and solutions businesses. Our global sector teams include Energy Infrastructure and Industrials, Consumer & Retail, FIG, Healthcare, Business Services, Media and Technology, and Financial Sponsors.

The Energy Infrastructure and Industrials (“EII”) team is one of the leading and largest sector teams at Nomura with a strong track record and significant transaction pipeline. We work closely with other teams to deliver the full suite of Nomura’s products and services to our clients who primarily include governments, corporates, infrastructure investors and financial sponsors.

Following the acquisition of Greentech Capital Advisors, a leader in low carbon infrastructure M&A, Nomura has further strengthen its capabilities in the sustainable finance space which was recently externally recognised when Nomura was selected as Investment Bank of the Year for Sustainable Corporate Finance in 2020 by “The Banker”.

The EII team covers the Power and Utilities, Transport Infrastructure, Telecommunications & Digital Infrastructure, Industrials and Chemicals sectors.

The Telecoms & Digital Infrastructure team has been involved in a range of landmark M&A transactions over the past few years, advising a range of telecoms operators, private equity funds, infrastructure funds and sovereign wealth funds. The team is active across fiber, towers and datacentre verticals as well as in telecommunications space on a pan-European scale. Following a successful run in 2020-2021, the team is looking to expand by adding a senior associate / vice president to drive origination and execution efforts further.

Key objectives critical to success:

  • Typical work includes (i) taking a lead role in execution, including leading and overseeing financial analysis, modelling and valuation, financial due diligence, process management and client deal team interaction as well as (ii) client and sector coverage, including generating transaction ideas and providing deep sector insight both internally and externally
  • Required to co-ordinate and work with all other product, geography and industry teams, including: M&A, Leverage Finance, Debt Capital Markets and Equity Advisory
  • Opportunity to work on a range of transaction types, including sell-side M&A, buy-side M&A, leveraged buyouts, equity advisory mandates, for a broad range of public, private or governmental clients
  • Broad engagement across teams / groups, for example: M&A, Leverage Financed, Financial Sponsors, DCM, Equity Advisory, Structured and Risk solutions (e.g. IR, FX swaps)

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

Essential:

  • A proven background in Corporate Finance from either a bank/ boutique advisory firm or the Corporate Finance, Modelling and Valuation, Transaction Services groups of a large accounting firm. Candidates with telecoms-focused corporate background could be considered as well.
  • Previous experience in Telecoms or Infrastructure-focused banking group
  • Excellent financial modelling experience (e.g. operating models, merger models, LBO)
  • Experience in buy-side and sell-side M&A
  • Project management: ability to manage teams to deliver to client needs
  • Strong communications skills: ability to interact confidently with banking professionals and clients
  • Outstanding analytical skills, including ability to perform data analysis
  • Team work: experience of working in a project based environment with tight deadlines
  • Strong academic record

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Fluency in a European language
