Would you like to lead with us in providing a much-needed support service to children and young people who are struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one?

HopeSpace opened in Galway in 2023. It provides a free, safe, accepting and compassionate support service for children and young people. Full details are on our website www.hopespace.ie

Death can change the shape of a family and the impact on a child or young person can be very significant and far-reaching. HopeSpace will walk the journey with the bereaved child or young person and provide support, care and an open ear to hear their story. The Board of Trustees is recruiting skilled and motivated individuals to help us make the HopeSpace service the best it can be and make a real difference in the lives of children and young people. We are recruiting for various roles including a trustee with a background in physcotheraply/psychology

General duties of a member of the HopeSpace Board of Trustees Ensure that HopeSpace is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit Ensure that HopeSpace assets are being managed efficiently and properly Provide efficient and effective strategic leadership of HopeSpace. Uphold and work towards achieving the vision, mission, values and objectives of HopeSpace Ensure HopeSpace complies with relevant legal requirements. Ensure there are strategies and policies in place that support the objectives of HopeSpace Provide general advice to the Board in your area of expertise. Take an active role in one or more subcommittees of the Board Essential Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities A track record in leadership and governance An enquiring mind, with the confidence to challenge constructively. Recognition of the importance of supporting collective decisions. Strong interpersonal, communication and listening skills. Commitment to the vision and values of HopeSpace Understanding of good governance and experience in implementing good governance practice in the private, non-profit or public sector Passion for and commitment to the welfare and well-being of children and young people Desirable Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities Good understanding of the community and voluntary sector in Ireland Experience working in a non-profit organisation in a paid or voluntary capacity Board-level experience in the non-profit sector Time requirement (this is an approximation) Preparing for and attending approximately ten Board meetings per year at an agreed location in Galway or online: 2 hours prep and 1.5-hour meeting x 10 meetings per year = 35 hours Preparing for and attending 6 subcommittee meetings per year – 20 hours Providing expert advice to the Board on specific issues as they arise: 12 hours TOTAL HOURS PER YEAR: 67 (approximately)
