Town Hall Receptionist x 2

£22,185 – £22,587 pa pro rata

20 hours per week

Newham has two fantastic Town Halls (Stratford and East Ham) which our residents use for the important events in their lives. A new Town Halls team is being created to ensure that we maximise the opportunities offered by these venues and to create even more memorable events for our residents.

Based predominantly at one of the Town Halls, providing cover as required at the other, this role will be the first point of contact future hall hirers have with the Council either by phone, email or in person.

As such you will have excellent customer service skills, truly putting the resident at the heart of what you do, always act professionally and give an excellent first impression of the service. You will be able to provide accurate information, answering questions and resolving the majority of queries raised, working. You will also assist with providing basic refreshments and some set up of rooms. You will be methodical and accurate in your record keeping and be able to use booking and payment systems. You will have a keen eye for improvement and be able to contribute to team and service development. You should be able to work well in a team, whilst also being confident to take the initiative. To ensure cover of the reception desks, some flexibility in working hours is required.

About Us

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the both the Theatre Royal Stratford East and Stratford Circus Arts Centre offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.

Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
