Reporting to the Program Manager, Enterprise Commons (EC) Centre of Excellence, the Technical Team Lead leverages their considerable SAP Basis experience to provide technical oversight and direction at the enterprise level, and across functional streams.

The Team Lead is responsible for the overall management of the SAP solutions (cloud and on-prem), including technical support, security and developing long-range planning activities; create operational and tactical plans; monitor and manage work plans ensuring service delivery meets standards, budgets, and deadlines. This position acts as the Subject Matter Expert in the development and delivery of several technologies (SAP Basis, Abap, Fiori, etc.) and provides Subject Matter Expertise and operational leadership for large systems designs or enhancements that involve high risk, complex initiatives which tend to result in significant organizational change, have high strategic value and visibility to the organization, and external stakeholders. The team lead is critical to leading and providing oversight and control to operational and maintenance planning and service coordination activities.

This is a team supervisory position that is expected to provide recommendations into the EC Centre of Excellence (who will set the strategic direction for the program) and lead a team of highly skilled technical staff, ranging from Basis Administrators, SAP Security Analysts, and SAP Abap and Fiori developers. The Team Lead will solve problems; conduct proper oversight of resources, including time, overtime and on-call approvals, provide team’s attendance and performance management; create a safe, healthy and respectful work environment; grow talent, mentor and coach staff. The role is responsible for maintaining critical communication channels between leadership team and staff; conducting necessary conversations; making sound decisions; ensuring an understanding of policies, procedures, and frameworks that are of importance to the City of Edmonton.

Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Provides SAP Basis and Abap SME and operational/implementation support for large and highly complex solution delivery; defines the risk of deployment
  • Provides organisational leadership and guidelines to promote the development and full utilization of specialist knowledge in the organisation
  • Provides detailed understanding, and maintains ongoing awareness of the emerging technologies and industry trends and their applicability to the work environment
  • Resolves or coordinates service deficiencies and escalated service failures or complex problems that span across technology layers
  • Provides leadership and expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures within the EC Centre of Excellence
  • Fosters and ensures adoption of an enterprise approach to the City of Edmonton’s Enterprise Commons environment, ensuring that enterprise impacts are understood before changes/enhancements are approved for deployment

Planning:

  • Perform comprehensive systems planning activities for the unit/team, including operational plans and procedures, roadmaps and establishing operational parameters
  • Plan, manage and coordinate implementation and maintenance activities, responsible for prioritizing and delegating work unit/team activities, planning the timing of activities, monitoring progress, scheduling acquisition of technology and resources and ensure quality assurance activities are performed
  • Provide advice, guidance and expertise to promote adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards
  • Evaluate and select appropriate methods and tools in line with City policies and standards
  • Manage the implementation of methods and tools at program, project and team level including tool selection / tailoring in line with City standards
  • Manage reviews of the benefits and value of methods and tools. Identifies and recommends improvements
  • Contribute to organisational policies, standards and guidelines for methods and tools

Team/Unit Management:

  • Perform problem-solving; conduct oversight of resource allocation, time and on-call work assignments and perform attendance and performance management of the team/unit
  • Create a safe, healthy and respectful work environment; grow talent and mentor/coach team members
  • Maintain critical communication channels between the leadership team and staff, conduct necessary conversations, make sound decisions, ensure an understanding of policies, procedures and frameworks that are of importance to the City of Edmonton
  • Identify and manage the resources needed for the planning, development and delivery of specified technology systems and services
  • Engage with and influence senior level stakeholders and project teams through change management processes
  • Plan and manage the implementation of processes and procedures, tools and techniques for monitoring and managing the performance of automated systems and services
  • Align the contribution of systems and services to clearly stated business and financial goals and performance targets
  • Monitor performance and take corrective action where necessary and in line with City policies and our Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Develop new methods and organizational capabilities (including automation) for your team

Qualifications :

  • Degree in Computer Science or Management with a technical minor and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience including SAP Basis and Abap administration, OR;
  • Post secondary diploma in a related discipline and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience including SAP Basis and Abap administration
  • Technical experience in a computing environment similar to the City of Edmonton such as:
    • Complex and highly diverse data, application and technology environments
    • Hybrid environment of cloud and on-premise data, application, and technologies
  • Expertise in SAP Basis, Abap, SolMan and IAG are required, with demonstrated troubleshooting and technical diagnostic skills
  • Expertise in IT Service Management, including Change, Incident, Problem management, among others
  • Demonstrated expertise in application lifecycle methodologies and applications service delivery
  • Proven leadership, project management and client management
  • Able to set priorities, deal with stakeholders at many business levels, l and staff issues and identify/manager risk
  • Demonstrated ability to bridge the gap between corporate/business goals and technical deliverables and related strategies
  • Ability to promote compliance with relevant legislation and the need to services, products and working practices to provide equal access and equal opportunity to people with diverse abilities
  • Completion of Aspiring Supervisors program is an asset
  • Understands and communicates industry developments, and the role and impact of technology in the employing organization
  • Ability to absorb complex information;

Up to one (1) permanent full-time position

Hours of Work: 40.0 hours per week The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Salary: $49.699 – $63.345 (Hourly); $103,768.25 – $132,263.42 (Annually)
