In-Q-Tel

Overview

Company Overview:

In-Q-Tel (IQT) is a not-for-profit that serves and powers the national security interests of the U.S. and its allies, providing the most sophisticated source of strategic technical knowledge, insights, and capabilities. IQT powers its partners ahead of the curve through cutting-edge research, strategic investments, exploration and applied research, and acceleration of capabilities.

Team Overview:

The BNext practice is looking for someone from the medical practitioner community (RN student, MD student or resident) to assist and participate in the activities of our group focused on digital healthcare initiatives and the exploration of our ‘engineered’ healthcare over the horizon vision.

Job Overview:

The internship would be an opportunity for the participant to learn about the important and unique role that IQT plays in the realm of supporting national security. And in specific, to learn about the elements in health security comprising our national security infrastructure. The intern would be expected to help in all aspects of the BNext practice. Special emphasis will be placed on the articulation and development of a roadmap for digital health care delivery adoption that can serve and augment day to day clinical service delivery, as well as be available as a backstop for ensuring access to and continuity of care during catastrophic health emergencies.

A possible area of concentrated attention will be to help design and detail the “field hospital of the future”, taking into account what capabilities would be required to ensure adequate remote patient monitoring, data collection, integration and analysis, and connectivity to the existing healthcare infrastructure. The intern will be expected to learn about alternate care systems and become acquainted with the body of literature focused on crisis standards of care for catastrophic health emergencies. The COVID experience will serve as the backdrop for discussion and planning (e.g., how to surge critical care when beds and staff are in short supply).

Responsibilities

It is anticipated that the following key elements would comprise the internship experience:

  • Participation in all BNext meetings (Pipeline; Team Meeting; Company calls, etc.)
  • Participation with Dr. Hanfling in extramural meetings including those related to his work at the National Academies and any government related meetings that may occur during the internship period.
  • Completion of white paper detailing the application of far-forward digital health technologies to supporting disaster response.

Anticipated Projects:

Engineered Health Care over the Horizon – Creating Near-Term Health Security Based upon Adoption of Digital Health Tools, Technologies, and Capabilities
