Job Summary:

The numbers of people facing severe food insecurity and malnutrition globally are extremely high, fueled by the ramifications of conflict, economic losses due to Covid-19, extended drought across East Africa and other impacts of extreme weather events due to climate change and, now, high costs and economic volatility due to the Ukraine war. The economic ramifications of the Ukraine crisis extend far beyond Ukraine, Russia, and the surrounding refugee-accepting countries, and are poised to have additional and catastrophic impacts on food security and economic stability globally. CRS have formed a coordination group to actively monitoring the crisis and support Country Programs to design and plan interventions.

You will provide technical analysis and support to the recently formed Global Food Crisis Coordination Group, in line with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) program quality principles and standards, don or guidelines, and industry best practice to technical staff, and Country Program (CP) staff to advance the delivery of high-quality programming to the poor and vulnerable. Working closely with technical experts your skills and knowledge will contribute to determining how effective, adaptive, and innovative CRS’ response to the global food crisis will be.

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and analyze technical information from a variety of sources for technical problems to support the Crisis Coordination Group in achieving technical excellence in the ongoing food crisis response.
  • Support the development of resource documents and tools, as well as guidance, training materials, and program quality improvement guidelines.
  • Support with internal and external communications, including the development of Sitreps, briefings, meeting outcomes, and two-way monitoring and sharing of relevant information with members of the Food Crisis Group, task teams, country program staff, and other relevant CRS staff engaged in the crisis
  • Manage and maintain the Global Food Crisis SharePoint site, including working with various task teams to design pages, upload data and resources, ensure information is organized, prioritized and navigable.
  • Support the CRS media and policy teams to access relevant data and information for their respective needs.
  • Manage and monitor Global Food Crisis Yammer page, ensure promotion and of page use and proactively engage in encouraging posting and relevant conversation.
  • Contribute to the learning agenda by researching and analyzing information, conducting literature reviews, mappings or information gathering from various internal and external sources on assigned topics. Coordinate maintenance of virtual resource and documentation databases.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s in international development, international development or field(s) related to food security required.
  • Minimum of two to three years of relevant work experience with an international NGO, with at least one year of field-based programming experience.
  • Additional experience may substitute for some education.
  • General knowledge of technical principles and concepts in food security
  • Knowledge of program design requirements and regulations of major donors.
  • Knowledge of project design and proposal development.
  • Knowledge of latest technological tools that have the potential to be applied in food security.
  • Strong English writing skills.
