Know our team

The Building Rights for Improved Girls’ Health in Tanzania (BRIGHT) Project targets all 8 councils of Tabora region and is implemented by Nutrition International (NI) in partnership with the Government of Tanzania as well as Engender Health (EH), Young and Alive Initiative (YAI) and Prosperous Health Life Initiative (PHLI). The BRIGHT project is an innovative collaboration with the aim of improving the health and well being and advancing the rights of adolescent girls in Tanzania. The BRIGHT project is implemented over a seven-year period and funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

Nutrition International promotes an evidence-based approach to advocacy, decision making, multi-sectoral country planning, and the setting of nutrition agendas. The Global Technical Services (GTS) Unit is Nutrition International’s Centre of Technical Excellence. The GTS Unit, based in Ottawa, leads on the quality assurance of and technical support to Nutrition International’s research and programs to influence and improve national and global policies and practice. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Technical Advisor Nutrition, BRIGHT Project to be based in Ottawa, Canada.

About you

You are someone with a Postgraduate level degree, masters/doctorate, from a recognized university in nutrition or public health (with emphasis on nutrition). You have at least 5 years of experience in programs relating to adolescent health and nutrition, and/or maternal health and nutrition, and/or SRH and nutrition in low- and middle- income countries or low resource settings, including at least 2 years of field experience. You have strong understanding of girls’ and women’s health and equity issues along with excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and discretion.

Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.

About the role

Under the supervision of Senior Technical Advisor, Maternal and Neonatal Health and Nutrition (MNHN) in GTS, the BRIGHT Technical Advisor (Nutrition) is responsible for coordinating the access to NI expertise and external experts for priority activities. This position will help assure that NI-led and supported activities and reporting under the BRIGHT Project are technically sound and strategic. The Technical Advisor (Nutrition) will be the GTS focal point for the BRIGHT Project. The Technical Advisor (Nutrition) is expected to work closely with NI’s BRIGHT Project Director, all relevant Senior Technical Advisors within GTS, NI’s Regional Advisor-Adolescent and Women’s Health and Nutrition, NI’s Regional and Head Office Gender and Equality Advisors, as well as the Tanzania based BRIGHT Project Nutrition and MEAL Officers, and Country Director to support the quality implementation of NI-led and supported activities.

In this role you will be:

  • Providing gender sensitive nutrition technical assistance to strengthen the NI-led work as guided by senior technical advisors of GTS.
  • Establishing and supporting BRIGHT-specific research and/or technical coordination team consisting of relevant senior technical staff in HQ GTS, and NI’s Africa Regional Office, and relevant partners to support the planning, design, and implementation of identified gender and youth responsive nutrition and sexual reproductive health research, as well as health economic studies under BRIGHT.
  • Contributing, as delegated, to knowledge translation documents such as policy briefs, summary briefs, blogs, and case studies on topics that include, but are not limited to, formative research, behavior change intervention strategies, supply chain management, health management information systems, nutrition policies, gender equality and gender equity issues related to health in nutrition.
  • International travel between Ottawa and Tanzania and domestic travel within Tanzania may be required to provide technical advisory services. Duty travel is typically for 1-3 weeks and usually for not more than 40 days per year.
