Know our team

Nutrition International promotes an evidence-based approach to advocacy, decision making, multi-sectoral country planning, and the setting of nutrition agendas. The Global Technical Services (GTS) Unit is Nutrition International’s Centre of Technical Excellence. The GTS Unit, based in Ottawa, leads on the quality assurance of and technical support to Nutrition International’s research and programs to influence and improve national and global policies and practice. Currently, Nutrition International (NI) is seeking applications for a Technical Advisor, Integrated Nutrition and Gender, PINGS Project to be based in Ottawa, Canada.

About you

You are someone with postgraduate level degree, masters/doctorate, from a recognized university in nutrition or public health (with emphasis on nutrition). Other relevant discipline will be considered with significant relevant experience. You have at least 5 years in programs relating to adolescent health and nutrition, and/or maternal health and nutrition, and/or sexual reproductive health and nutrition, ideally with focus at the community level in low- and middle- income countries. You have excellent communication skills and experience with gender responsive (nutrition or public health) program design and implementation is an asset

Fluency in English and French are required.

About the role

Under the supervision of Technical Director, GTS, the PINGS Technical Advisor is responsible for providing gender-sensitive technical support to the PINGS project and coordinating the access to in-house expertise and external experts for priority activities to assure that NI-led activities and reporting under the PINGS Project are technically sound. The Technic A will be the GTS focal point for the PINGS Project.

In this role you will be:

  • Coordinate and monitor provision of gender sensitive nutrition technical advice by GTS or other external experts to project staff in support of the implementation of NI-led work as per PINGS annual work plans and budget.
  • Establish and support a PINGS-specific research coordination team consisting of relevant senior technical staff in HQ GTS, and NI’s Africa Regional Office to support the planning, design and implementation of all gender sensitive and responsive research studies under PINGS.
  • Contribute, as delegated, to knowledge translation documents such as policy briefs, summary briefs, blogs, and case studies on topics that include, but are not limited to, formative research, behavior change intervention strategies, supply chain management, health management information systems, nutrition policies, gender equality and gender equity issues related to health in nutrition.
  • Disseminate, as delegated, in close coordination with other units, NI’s work regarding this project, including (a) representation at regional and international meetings; (b) publications and presentations; (c) policy advocacy.
  • International travel between Ottawa and Senegal and domestic travel within Senegal may be required to provide technical advisory services. Duty travel is typically for 1-3 weeks and usually for not more than 40 days per year.
