Project Description:

The USAID-funded Uzbekistan All Children Succeeding Activity aim to improve the learning outcomes of Uzbekistani primary school students. To achieve this, the activity will strengthen the capacity of education sector systems to provide quality learning environments with the instruction, materials and support that children need while they are in school, at home, or in the community. Inclusive teaching and learning materials (TLM) will be an integral part of this activity; therefore, interventions will work to revise and strengthen existing and develop new TLM that support and promote universal design for learning, child-centered, inclusive pedagogy and address differentiated learning needs.

The TLM Lead will work under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Party – Technical. S/he will lead the integration of inclusive education principles within existing and new TLM and curricula to promote strong foundational skills and higher-order thinking skills for all children. S/he will provide leadership in the development of materials that meet differentiated learning needs. S/he will also support the development of community/home-based and teacher training TLM materials in collaboration with partners at Syracuse University.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:– Responsible for overall TLM revision, development, and delivery, with the integration of inclusive education principles.

  • Provide expertise on the mapping, analysis, and revision of teaching and learning materials (TLM) and curricula.
  • Work closely with TPD team on developing training and piloting materials.
  • Responsible for collaboration and submitting for approval TLM related documentation to responsible government organizations.
  • Responsible for TLM related events and workshops.
  • Support national and international partners in developing, implementing, and evaluating pilots in the first year of the project using an action research approach. Support international partner selection and review of teaching and learning materials
  • Revise, refine, pilot, adapt, and finalize TLM and curriculum that support UDL, SEL, higher-order thinking skills, and diverse representation.
  • Revise, refine, develop, and deliver TLM in line with TLM Improvement and Resourcing Plan.
  • Align curricula, promote best practices, and develop TLM that effectively support grade level transitions from kindergarten to first grade and from fourth to fifth grade.
  • Support the development and rollout of parental engagement and home-based materials.
  • Support the development of training, coaching, and mentoring materials for KG and G1-G5 teachers.
  • Contribute to the production of project deliverables, including annual implementation plans, MEL plan, and quarterly and annual reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education (PhD preferable), preferably with a specialty in early grade learning or inclusive education.
  • A minimum of four years of professional experience in teaching and learning materials development.
  • Experience in developing training materials and presentations
  • Experience leading or supervising a team.
  • Experience working closely in partnership with government counterparts, international development agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other collaborators/stakeholders.
  • Experience living and/or working in Uzbekistan and/or the Central Asia region.
  • Advanced professional proficiency in Uzbek and/or Russian required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are preferred.
