The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Tax Manager in London Save the Children International office.

Role Purpose:

SCI’s tax environment is complex; tax regimes vary country by country, rules can change suddenly and application of tax regulations may be unclear. Increasingly we are seeing country office tax regimes becoming more rigorous as well as donors requiring more assurance over our tax compliance.

The role holder will have overall responsibility for managing, advising on and monitoring all tax matters across the organisation, reporting to senior leadership where require.

We have a group of external tax advisors who, with their global outreach, can advise on specific tax regimes in certain countries and regions to ensure we are able to remain tax compliance across all countries within the global SCI structure. They also support on identifying opportunities to maximise tax efficiency to inform our high performing projects for continuous improvements as well as business as usual processes and structures and finally lead on advice for all response work, often working to tight timelines.

The role holder will be responsible for ensuring advice and solutions coming from this engagement are implemented internally and effectively project managed. This role will support on all tax compliance and to further assess the status of tax compliance and financial risks by working with the centre financial control and compliance team to collate and assess all responses from the regions and countries. Determine whether we have any gaps in our compliance and what further actions will be to ensure we are fully tax compliant to meet our strict donor requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Previous experience of working on tax issues, preferably for an organisation which operates across multiple jurisdictions;
  • Previous experience of project management in similar complex and large organisations;
  • Have the ability to think strategically and creatively with a genuine solution focused attitude, and an aptitude and energy for problem-solving and accomplishing challenges;
  • Possess strong leadership, project management, organisational and communication skills;
  • Be flexible, open minded and have a “hands-on” work mentality;
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately and attention to detail especially under pressure
  • Excellent excel and IT skills;
  • Excellent communication skills on the phone, face-to-face and in writing to be able to explain processes clearly and resolve queries with colleagues;
  • Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines;
  • Proven experience of dealing with high volumes of transactions, complex spreadsheets and comfortable with drawing out information from multiple sources;
  • Solutions orientated with strong problem solving skills and a track record of ensuring continuous improvement;
  • An energetic, flexible and proactive approach with the ability to work both independently and co-operatively within a team setting and maintain good working relationships;
  • A proactive approach to resolving any issues that may arise, by assessing their impact and identifying those that need to be passed to the Head of Financial Accounting and Taxation;
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures;
  • Commitment to Save the Children values.

Desirable

  • Experience in working with complex accounting systems (e.g. Agresso, SUN etc)

We can offer circa £55,400 per annum (If based in UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.

This role will be based in London Save the Children International office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
