Save the Children

Background

The USAID-funded General Education Activity (TABLA), managed and implemented by Save the Children, seeks to hire a Consultant to assist with final project reporting.

The goal of the TABLA project is to strengthen the ability of the educators to encourage students in the 4Cs (Critical thinking, Creativity, Communication and Collaboration) and applied STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) knowledge and skills in order to reach their full potential and positively impact the social and economic development of Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH). To prepare students and teachers for the demands of the 21st century, the TABLA project takes a comprehensive and innovative approach to improving students’ learning outcomes in STEAM subjects through building teachers’ capacity, increasing standards for pre-service and in-service teacher training, improving students’ learning environments, and encouraging dialogue and advocacy for education reform within the BiH education system.

All four components of the TABLA project are carried out in cooperation with the education authorities in Sarajevo Canton, Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, and the Republika Srpska, and include:

  1. Pre-service Teacher Training: TABLA provides support to select teaching faculties at targeted universities to increase standards for pre-service teacher training and to incorporate critical thinking and applied knowledge skills in STEAM subjects in the pre-service curricula.
  2. In-service Teacher Training: TABLA supports the Ministries of Education in Canton Sarajevo, Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, and the Republika Srpska to institutionalize high quality in-service training and professional development for teachers within their education systems.
  3. Quality Learning Environments: TABLA improves the learning environment in select schools by providing the physical tools and equipment necessary for applied learning in STEAM subjects.
  4. Education Reform Dialogue: TABLA promotes discussion and debate on education reform with relevant stakeholders in response to Bosnia-Herzegovina’s results in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018, a worldwide study of students’ scholastic performance on mathematics, science and reading, and the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2019, which provides international trends in mathematics and science achievement.
