The Project

Swiss TPH, working with Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) will support the Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC) to evaluate new tools for vector control. In collaboration with the principal investigator and the members of the Ifakara Health Institute as well as the Swiss TPH project teams, you will support the design, execution, analysis and publication of experiments to evaluate vector control tools. You will also take the lead in developing and budgeting new work packages, delivering reports, supervising staff and mentoring students within the project.

Your Responsibilities Include
Overseeing all technical, academic, ethical, administrative, reporting and fundraising activities of the project and ensuring that these meet the needs and priorities of Donors, Swiss TPH and IHI
Citizenship duties including grant reviewing and paper reviewing
Supervision of MSc and PhD students in vector control and epidemiology registered at Swiss TPH
Academic and pastoral care of staff and students within the research group
Development of a portfolio of projects in line with the needs of Swiss TPH Vector Biology Unit and Ifakara Health Institute
Publishment of findings in peer reviewed publications
Contribute to occasional teaching of Ifakara Health Institute Masters in Research; in Public Health and short courses where appropriate

You Should Have The Following Experiences And Skills In
PhD in Medical Entomology or a related discipline.
Exceptional candidates with MSc and relevant experience will be considered
Expertise/background and interest in the biology and control of disease vectors
Ability to deliver high quality research and to publish in peer reviewed journals
Ability to manage teams, projects and deadlines effectively
Effective communication skills in spoken and written English, with good presentation skills. Proficiency in Swahili and or French is an advantage.
Demonstrated interest in vector control
Strong spirit of team work and initiative, and ability to work with professionals in a multi-cultural context
Willingness to be based in Tanzania is essential
