DEPARTMENT PURPOSE:

The Oxfam International Operations Department includes a range of functions: Safeguarding, Finance, People and Culture, IT Systems, Risk and assurance, Legal and the project lead Global Green Team.

These functions provide safe, and inclusive operational services, that enable the Confederation to have greater impact and support the delivery of the OIS strategy. This to be achieved through the management and continual improvement of Oxfam International Secretariat’s key operational functions. This includes the provision of services and support to OI (OIS and Countries and Region); coordination of these functions across the Confederation to facilitate greater efficiencies harmonization of services for improved quality and consolidation of key operational data; operational support to countries and regions, in close partnership with the with Oxfam Affiliates.

TEAM PURPOSE:

The team purpose is to lead the Confederation to achieve the Climate and Environmental Commitments for Operations and reaching net zero carbon emission.

JOB PURPOSE:

The job purpose is developing, measuring and analysing the carbon footprint of Oxfam and (1) coordinating actions to reduce that footprint and (2) exchange impactful projects in the Confederation. In order to succeed in the job, it is important to cooperate with many different operational functions (HR, Finance and Supply and Logistics and IT) in all the different parts in Oxfam (Countries, Regions, GHT, OIS, Affiliates).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Technical, Leadership, People and Resource management)

Technical:

  • Coordinate the development of a Global Oxfam Carbon Footprint
  • Ensure annual update of the carbon emission footprint from Country Offices, Regional Platforms, Affiliates, GHT and OIS, making trend analysis and comparisons between different years and offices in Oxfam.
  • Being able to analyze data and create reports
  • Monitor the effects of carbon emission reduction initiatives like new policies, projects and actions etc.
  • Collaborate with other (I)NGOs in the humanitarian sector in the development and implementation of the Carbon Accounting Tool.
  • Contribute to (internal and external) projects that aim to reduce the carbon footprint.
  • Support the organization’s compliance with legislations on carbon and with the compliance to donor requirements that are related to the carbon footprint.

  • Passion for sustainability and change
  • Improve the quantity and quality of the data also by coordinating to key persons and key groups in Country Offices, Regional Platforms, Affiliates, GHT and OIS.
  • Being able to coordinate processes in a complex organisation of 21 affiliates and over 60 countries where Oxfam works.
  • Present to different stakeholders inside and outside Oxfam
  • Present Oxfam in the Humanitarian Sector

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES

ESSENTIAL

  • Systems Thinking
  • Mutual accountability
  • Education and / or experience in sustainable development
  • Experience in developing carbon footprints
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating in complex situations
  • Good project management skills
  • Good Excel and database skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical information in plain language
  • Fluent in English

Desirable

  • Preferably knowledge of one or of the following languages French, Spanish, Arabic
