The Staff Accountant will provide accounting support for the Equity Residential Payroll function. The Staff Accountant is responsible for processing weekly payroll postings, preparing the monthly payroll bank reconciliation and administering various projects within the Payroll team. The Staff Accountant prepares quarterly and annual work papers in accordance with GAAP and EQR standards.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Reconciliation of weekly/bi-weekly payrolls, creating and posting related JE’s to record payroll activity.
  • Reclassifying HSA Fundings on a monthly basis.
  • Analyzing Medical Reserve Activity and posting related journal entries required.
  • Reclassifying 401k/SERP Fundings on a monthly basis to related accounts.
  • Record 401k forfeitures utilized on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare and record JE for estimated 401k Company match true-up quarterly.
  • Reclassifying state and local payroll tax liabilities on a monthly basis.
  • Reclassifying payroll tax fundings on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare monthly payroll bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly G/L to PAR reconciliation.
  • Analyze Misc Payroll Liability (a/c# 4799-10).
  • Review activity for a/c# 1210-98 at ERPOP.
  • Reconcile MRI payroll postings with HCM essbase on a monthly basis.
  • Analyze Life/ADD/LTD/STD/Supp Life on a semi-annual basis.
  • Prepare file of stale dated checks for MarketSphere to track for dormancy and possible escheatment. Provide details of transactions previously provided that have since settled.
  • Review unclaimed property filings prepared by MarketSphere and identify property that has since settled. Reconcile related master schedules for stale dated checks issued by UHC.
  • Assist in compiling payroll information on employees to be provided to inside parties.
  • Provide general auditor assistance as necessary, including fielding questions or gathering supporting work papers as requested.
  • Performs special projects as requested.
  • Performs other accounting duties as necessary.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance
  • 0-1 years applicable accounting experience.
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent analytical and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize workload and work on numerous projects/tasks at one time, and be highly conscientious of deadlines.
  • Computer literacy required – Intermediate Excel skills, Google Apps, and previous experience working in accounting systems would be ideal.
  • CPA status is preferred and encouraged, but not required.
