POSITION SUMMARY

Join us to plan, create, and execute smart, beautiful digital content and campaigns to support our mission to build better futures with communities across Africa and Asia. You will work closely with the Communications and Resource Development teams to produce high quality digital content and materials that support our fundraising initiatives and promote our thought leadership among U.S. and international audiences.

The right candidate will work with the Strategic Communications team—in consultation with the Resource Development team—to plan communications products across various needs, identify story ideas, craft digital copy, and produce strong communications end products to serve as the backbone for our fundraising efforts. In this role, you will maintain AKF USA’s social media and web presence to build support for our work and elevate AKF USA as an innovative thought leader in international development.

Success will require applying creativity in your approach, but also working within brand guidelines. You will work with a small team of creative, highly collaborative problem-solvers who value growth, experimentation, and learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the creation of content plans and identify content development priorities in light of key needs across the organization, with special reference to Resource Development and Programs & Partnerships.
  • Lead the planning and execution of priority content end products, such as the Annual Report.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that end products are consistent with AKF USA branding.
  • Create and/or review content for digital fundraising and brand-raising campaigns— to elevate AKF’s mission and unique approach—and measure the impact of these, iterating based on findings;
  • Serve as a brand ambassador and communications resource for our volunteer network—providing guidance on branded templates and materials
  • Develop AKF USA’s social media strategy and create organic and paid content for our social channels, including Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn;
  • Format and maintain core pages on AKF USA’s website, including our blog, staff, and program pages—creating new calls-to-action and landing pages as needed by our marketing strategy;
  • Craft AKF USA’s monthly email newsletter, working with the Communications and Resource Development teams to develop an annual calendar and identify key messaging themes;
  • Work closely with the Programs team to identify stories to highlight partnerships and successes from our work in the field and with the Resource Development team to collect stories of donors and volunteers;
  • Be a brand champion, ensuring everything that leaves our office digitally is in alignment with our brand guidelines and storytelling standards.

required qualifications

  • Five years of professional experience in email marketing or digital communications, ideally at a nonprofit or mission-driven organization;
  • Excellent writer with strong proofreading skills and attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of email design and deployment best practices;
  • Familiarity with EveryAction, MailChimp, Constant Contact, or other email marketing platforms;
  • Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems;
  • Experience working with or willingness to explore and master Canva or other online graphics tools;
  • Proficient in Google Analytics and social media analytics;
  • A drive to learn, problem-solve, and troubleshoot independently and collaboratively; and
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related fields.

A bonus if you have

  • An interest in international development or global issues;
  • Basic knowledge of human-centered design;
  • Strong typography skills with attention to visual design and layout;
  • Some experience with digital fundraising and writing copy for fundraising emails, social posts, and paid ads;
  • An ability to use HTML/CSS/Javascript to customize WordPress-based layouts and provide support for colleagues creating site content;
  • Enthusiastic readiness to learn new technical skills through self-directed research or professional development courses; or
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Teams for office communication and project management.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000 per annum, in addition to a competitive benefits package.
