Overview of Position
Our client has commenced a stabilization in three regions of Burkina Faso. These are taking place in the Sahel, North and East. The programme involves supporting the government in its efforts to enable people return to their homes and rebuild their lives after months of conflict. The main focus of the interventions are the rehabilitation of basic services such as health, water and education. Alongside this, Our client will implement a large-scale cash for work programme in the targeted areas. The civil works will involve the use of local contractors.

• The overall objective is to support the client stabilization project in Burkina Faso in specific areas for designing, supervising, monitoring & undertaking the quality assurance for the construction & rehabilitation different activities.
• Over the time period, the engineer will review relevant documents & conduct data collection related to the different locations of client stabilization project in the designated areas.
• The engineer will meet with relevant authorities on the technical level & align their needs within the implementation phase.
• The engineer will be responsible for preparing the needed designs, drawings & tender documents for the different locations & according to the requirements of our client.
• The engineer will be responsible for following up the implementation & the site supervision.

Role Objectives

• Assist in assessment processes of the targeted locations in order to identify the needed plan including the procedures, items & equipment. Assist the program team to perform daily supervision tasks needed to properly implement the project & raise relevant issues to senior supervisor.
• Conduct field visits to the different sites in order to identify issues to be followed by the senior engineers & / or to accomplish daily tasks related to the implementation including providing technical advice to the beneficiaries.
• Assist in submission of the required BOQs of the relevant renovation & construction activities in coordination & cooperation with the technical teams from the government.
• Participate in pre bid meetings & respond to queries from national bidders if related to BOQs & technical specifications.
• Participate in technical review panels for submitted bids & review all bids against the approved BOQs & technical specifications.
• Assist in the supervision all locations of building & provide updates, recommendation to clients accordingly.
• Assist in evaluating, checking & verifying contractor’s measurements on site.
• Assist in construction inspection including inspection of materials, equipment’s to be installed.
• Assist in checking materials received at construction / renovation sites against damages, missing parts
• appropriate ratings. ensuring that the materials / equipment provided by the contractor meets client’s requirement & standards.
• Assist in checking construction progress / completion & the corresponding payments.
• Assist in maintaining project construction / rehabilitation records & issue correspondence, certificates, notices & instructions on behalf of our client to the contractor as may be required by the provisions of the construction contract documents.
• Assist the project team in preparing daily & progress reports.
• Follow up on different materials testing & relevant approvals in case needed. Inspection of submitted materials & follow up on the approval process till finalized. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Output:

• Rapid assessment reports for the assigned facilities within the first month of the assignment. Preliminary design report & BOQs within the second month of the assignment.
• First quarter progress report & achievements presentation at the end of the third month. Monthly progress & payments tacking report at the end of the fourth, fifth month.
• Report the progress on daily basis.

Project Reporting

• This role reports to the Head of Stabilization and Senior Civil Engineer.

Key Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering. Have at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated interest & / or experience civil or architecture is required. Good interpersonal, networking & communication skills.
• Willingness to contribute & work as part of a team. Flexible & open to learning & new experiences.
• Respect for diversity & adaptability to other cultures, environments & living conditions. Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media & others)
