Overview of Position

Our client has commenced a stabilization in three regions of Burkina Faso. These are taking place in the Sahel, North and East. The programme involves supporting the government in its efforts to enable people return to their homes and rebuild their lives after months of conflict. The main focus of the interventions are rehabilitating of basic services such as health, water and education. Alongside this client will implement a large scale cash for work programme in the targeted areas. The civil works will involve the use of local contractors. During the stabilization programme there will be constant engagement with local communities in terms of getting a deeper understanding of the causes of conflict, the challenges the community and agreeing interventions including cash for work activities, supporting small scale business and enhancing the capacity of women to address their specific concerns

  • The overall objective is to support the client stabilization project in specific areas of Burkina Faso in specific for developing community activities which contribute to helping communities restart their lives after the experience of the conflict.
  • The Community Engagement officer will visit local communities in the programme areas, hold meetings with representatives of these communities and develop specific responses to immediate needs faced by the people as they try to rebuild their lives after the impact of the conflict.
  • The Community Engagement Officer will meet with relevant authorities on the technical level & align their needs within the implementation phase.
  • The Community Engagement Officer will be responsible for assisting with community programmes including cash for work, establishing safe spaces for women and working with experts on community security.
  • The Community Engagement Officer will prepare reports on activities at community level ensuring that programme implementation is monitored on a regular basis.

Role Objectives

  • The Community Engagement Officer will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of community development projects as part of the client stabilization programme in Burkina Faso.
  • He/she will work under the direction of the Head of Stabilization of someone appointed by him/her in ensuring the smooth running of livelihoods’ interventions including supporting cash for work, unconditional cash grants, assistance to provision of household items including building materials, solar panels, mobile phones and supporting community resilience.
  • He/she will visit the programme areas in Burkina Faso which have been impacted by the conflict and carry out consultations with the community, with a particular emphasis on supporting women in programme activities.
  • He/she will monitor programme activities, prepare reports on activities and ensure that all interventions are in line with the objectives of client stabilization priorities in Mozambique.
  • The Community engagement Officer will liaise with local government structures to ensure they are fully aware of client interventions in their areas.

Project Reporting

  • This role reports to the Head of Stabilization and Senior Civil Engineer

Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering. Have at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Willingness to work as part a team, Flexible & open to learning & new experiences.
  • Good interpersonal, networking & communication skills.
  • Willingness to contribute & work as part of a team. Flexible & open to learning & new experiences.
  • Respect for diversity & adaptability to other cultures, environments & living conditions. Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media & others). Fluency in spoken & written French is required. Working knowledge of English is an advantage.
