Chemonics seeks a short-term technical consultant to provide support in reviewing and proposing improvements to Sri Lanka’s standards for minimum energy performance in induction motors and develop specifications to establish testing infrastructure. This assignment will be carried out partly remotely, with travel to Colombo, Sri Lanka likely required. The assignment is expected to be part-time and last approximately from November 2022 to January 2023. Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a minimum of three in person working group discussions to identify the context and basis for the content included in the draft SLS 1525 standard developed by Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority and Sri Lanka Standards Institution
  • Review the draft standard including the standards for rotating electrical machines and Sri Lanka Standard specifications for induction motors and recommend changes/additions in line with global best practices and local requirements
  • Recommend test methods based on resources and capabilities available locally for successful testing of induction motors
  • Prepare specifications for establishment of testing infrastructure to verify compliance with requirements mentioned in the standard. Specifications shall cover testing infrastructure required to perform to validate compliance with the SLS 1525 standard
  • Provide layout and single line drawings for the proposed testing infrastructure with essential parameters to be used for tendering purposes

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with at least ten years’ experience with induction motor operation or testing
  • Prior experience in development of induction motor performance standards and testing infrastructure
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
