CARING – INNOVATING – TOGETHER :

Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 7 million patients. Today ALIMA works in 12 countries in Western and Central Africa. In 2020, we developed 41 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects support national health authorities through nearly 357 health structures (including 45 hospitals and 312 health centres). We work in partnership, especially with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from the expertise wherever it is, whether in their country or the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we are carrying out operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the field of the fight against malnutrition and haemorrhagic viral fevers. ALIMA is also leading operations in response to the covid-19 pandemic across all of our missions.

ALIMA’S TEAM: More than 2000 people currently work for ALIMA. The field teams, as close as possible to the patients, receive their support from the coordination teams generally based in the capitals of the countries of intervention. These receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and opening service team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working on fundraising as well as representing ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams who work on behalf of other organizations such as medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERTE Santé, SOS Médecins / KEOOGO, AMCP, research organizations PACCI, INSERM, Universities of Bordeaux or Copenhagen, the NGO Solidarités International and many others.

COUNTRIES WHERE WE WORK IN 2020: Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Guinea, South Sudan, Mauritania & Senegal.

THE WORK WE DO covers: Primary and Secondary Health Care, with a main focus on children and women – including treatment and prevention of acute malnutrition, maternal health, mental health, response to epidemics (Ebola, Cholera, Measles, Lassa Fever), surgery, displaced populations, and gender based violence, Covid 19.

**GOVERNANCE:**ALIMA is governed by a Board of Directors of 10 elected positions and 4 co-opted positions from representatives of West African partner NGOs.

PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Level 3: As part of his/her duties, the employee will visit programs and come into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or a certificate of good character will be required. In situations where a criminal record or character reference is not available, a statement of good character will be required.

ALIMA in Ukraine

Mission Location : Odessa with regular visit to Mykolaiv

In Ukraine, ALIMA focuses its effort in the South to provide emergency primary health care and support to hospitals in Mykolaiv Oblast and surrounding area. The main objective is to reduce the mortality and suffering among the population affected by the war in this area through 4 axes:

  • Reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with chronic disease and communicable diseases among the isolated population in Mykolaiv Oblast
  • Reduce mental health burden through psychological care in Mykolaiv Oblast
  • Provide care for persons victims of sexual violence and more broadly sexual and reproductive health including access to contraception, safe abortion care, maternity care
  • Support hospitals to deliver trauma services and safe delivery, incuding emercency obstetrical care.e in Mykolaiv City
  • Ensuring a rapid response mechanism to delivered health care support to affected population

FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINKS

Line Manager :

He/she reports to the Project Coordinator or the medical team leader

His/her technical referent is the Medical Coordinator or Medical Desk referent

He/she collaborates with field project coordinator, coordination team, other ALIMA staff, Ministry of health, local and international NGO and the local community

MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES

Defining, coordinating, monitoring all sexual and reproductive health activities in a project area, according to ALIMA and Ukrainian national policies, protocols and standards in order to provide a high quality Mother and Child Health care to the population :

  • Ensuring that the ALIMA data collection tools are correctly used on the mission
  • Planning, organizing and ensuring the implementation in close collaboration with other medical staff, all Sexual and Reproductive health activities.
  • Providing technical training, including on contraception, abortion care, management of sexual violence case management
  • Coordinating and assessing the feasibility for referral of patients to receive further medical evaluation, including to Mental Health services and support services for victims of sexual Violence.
  • Developing and mapping of the partners networks working in SRH including Gender Based Violence in Mykolaiv region and at the national level.
  • Attending coordination meetings related to SRH/ GBV issues in Ukraine. (Cluster mechanisms)
  • Support the implementation of protocols and good practices by the MoH staff in order to improve the quality of the healthcare given to population
  • Participate in the preparation of the medical order, Supervising the proper distribution of drugs and use of materials, keeping track of consumption patterns and supply orders, and monitoring inventories

Implementation of prevention measures against abuse of power, gender-based and sexual violences:

  • Participates in training and awareness-raising sessions
  • Implements abuse prevention standards
  • Ensures that team members follow training and awareness sessions and apply abuse prevention rules
  • Contributes to creating and maintaining a nurturing and protective environment

At the request of his/her hierarchy, he/she may be required to perform tasks not listed in this job profile.

EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

Training

  • Licensed Midwife or Nurse with extensive experience working in SRH

Experience

  • Experience working with a medical INGO is an asset
  • Having worked in developing countries is desirable

Languages spoken by the candidate

  • A good command of oral and written English is essential;
  • Russian and Ukrainian are assets

CONDITIONS

Duration and type of contract: 6 to 8 weeks

Starting position: June 2022

Salary: according to ALIMA scale + experience + per diem

ALIMA supports:

  • travel expenses between the expatriate’s home country and the place of assignment
  • accommodation costs
  • 2.08 days off per month
  • daily per diem
  • medical coverage from the first day of the contract to one month after the date of departure from the country of assignment for the employee and his/her dependents
  • the break policy every 3 months (for 6 months of the mission)
  • evacuation for the employee.
