Finn Church Aid (FCA) is looking for a Senior Thematic Advisor – (Right to) Quality Education (R2QE) for a permanent position. Primary purpose of the position is development of FCA’s Right to Quality Education theme and programmatic framework and advise and support FCA staff in RO/COs on the content of R2QE within the Regional/Country Programme and its projects.

Main tasks

  • Lead and coordinate the quality and content of development of Right to Quality Education theme within the FCA programmatic framework, with special focus on Education in Emergencies (EiE), Psycho-Social Support (PSS) and education sector development.
  • Coordinate thematic work with the other thematic advisors to ensure quality planning of a holistic FCA programme and to ensure synergies and interlinkages between the 3 themes of Right to Quality Education, Right to Livelihoods and Right to Peace.
  • Assist Country/Regional Offices in identifying potential R2QE priorities within the Country Programmes
  • Provide thematic expertise to Country Offices and other relevant staff on R2QE in the course of project cycle management and take part in programme/project baselines studies, planning, monitoring and/or evaluations and assure organizational learning
  • Provide thematic expertise to RO/CO and other relevant staff on Education in Emergencies
  • Participate in capacity development of FCA’s staff in R2QE, support and advice the country/regional education specialists
  • Lead/actively participate in specific thematic development projects and initiatives
  • Represent FCA in relevant thematic and sectoral networks related to R2QE and establish/strengthen strategic partnerships with other agencies, as agreed and in cooperation with other relevant FCA staff
  • Participate in thematic development within sectoral networks (e.g. INEE, Education Global Cluster)
  • Facilitate teamwork with relevant colleagues at HO and in the RO/COs to enable innovations and piloting of new solutions for R2QE, especially in the field of EiE
  • Contribute to the development of FCA programmatic guidelines and tools in collaboration with relevant staff members
  • Participate in proposal development as agreed

Competence, experience, skills, knowledge needed

  • Master’s degree in Education or equivalent work experience
  • In depth understanding of the Finnish Education system and its strengths
  • Proven proposal writing skills
  • In depth understanding of Education in Emergencies
  • Knowledge and expertise in RQ2E
  • Good knowledge of approaches and methodology to development cooperation, humanitarian aid and advocacy
  • In-depth knowledge and experience on program and project level PME
  • Analytical skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Language skills: Finnish and English, French is an asset

There will be a six-month probation period. The compensation is based on FCA Compensation System and depends on prior work experience.
