Senior Strategic Liaison Assistant

Context: Under the direct supervision of the Sub-Regional Coordinator (SRC) for the Nordic Countries/ Chief of Mission in Denmark, and in close coordination with relevant staff in IOM’s country offices in Denmark, Norway and Finland, the successful candidate will provide strategic liaison support to the SRC, to achieve the objectives of SR Strategy for the Nordic Countries, in particular to strengthen strategic partnerships in the Nordic countries to mobilize resources, incl in-kind support for IOM’s programmes and country offices worldwide.

Core Functions/ Responsibilities:

  1. Collect and analyse strategic information on a range of migration and displacement matters in the Nordic countries that are relevant to IOM’s mandate, in particular domestic migration policy/priorities and foreign policy strategies/ funding priorities on migration/displacement;
  2. Analyse involvement, support and commitment of governments in the Nordic countries in/to global migration processes such as the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), the Global Compact on Migration (GCM), International Migration Review Framework (IMRF), and involvement in EU/EEA processes, amongst other;
  3. Ensure a good information management system, including by further developing and maintaining the SharePoint portal for the SRO Nordics office that is easy to update and navigate for IOM colleagues worldwide.
  4. Support SRC with organising high level briefings, meetings and consultations, incl. by developing talking points, presentations and liaison support.
  5. Analyse and record the history of IOM’s relations with strategic partners in the Nordic countries (including funding and in-kind support from Government, Standby Partners/NGOs, Academia), and keep an up to date partners database;
  6. Advise SRC on call for proposals, gaps and project development opportunities for IOM to engage at bilateral level and/or at sub-regional level in line with IOM global strategic vision and IOM’s Regional Strategy for EU/EEA.
  7. Analyse and advise SRC on possible partnerships with private sector agencies in the Nordic countries;
  8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the SR Coordinator/Chief of Mission (COM), the Programme Manager or the Resource Management Officer (RMO).
  9. Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, International Relations, International Affairs, Political Science, Migration and/or Humanitarian Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with six years of relevant professional experience.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in collecting relevant data/information, analyzing, summarizing and communicating this as strategic information
  • Proficiency in development and management of donor funded projects and liaison with donors/strategic partners;
  • Experience in working in an international environment, international organization/NGO, relevant government ministry is an advantage.
  • Good understanding and experience on how to develop and maintain strategic partnerships

Skills:

  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Application (Word, Excel, Outlook);
  • Ability to analyse information/data and draft clear and concise reports and project documents.
  • Experience in working in an intercultural setting is considered an advantage • Good teamwork skill

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required (oral and written)
  • Working knowledge of any of Nordic (Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, and Danish) languages
