SPARK is looking for a Senior Regional Communications Officer to support the regional communications team and the EU-funded programmes throughout the Southern Mediterranean region.

About you

The Senior Regional Communications Officer will be a flexible, multi-tasker with a broad range of communications skills including event management, writing, graphic design and social media as well as strong interpersonal and journalistic skills. The selected candidate should have stakeholder management skills, good attention to detail, project management experience and creativity.

About the role

This position, supervised by the Regional Communications Coordinator, will work closely with all of the country teams and partner institutions to lead SPARK’s EU-funded programme providing capacity building support to existing green business support organisations (BSOs) across the MENA region (specifically Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan and the Palestinian territories).

The Senior Regional Communications Officer will produce and edit quality written and designed content for a range of SPARK communication channels, including press, the SPARK website, social media and newsletters.

The Senior Regional Communications Officer will coordinate with programme stakeholders in terms of communication initiatives in conjunction with a diverse spectrum of partners, including chambers of commerce, business support organisations, incubators, governmental bodies, and NGOs. The Senior Regional Communications Officer will play a critical role in ensuring that the joint communication efforts between SPARK and programme stakeholders remain cohesive and effectively aligned with the programme objectives.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

The responsibilities and tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Partnership management – coordinate with partner institutions and stakeholders to ensure cohesive communication efforts are delivered across all programme locations;
  • Multimedia and communications content – produce and manage the creation of video production and photography alongside filmmakers/photographers, conduct interviews with programme participants/partner institutions and develop written stories and articles;
  • Social media – develop social media content and campaigns surrounding programme updates;
  • Website content –proactively create content for the SPARK WordPress website (English and Arabic sites);
  • Graphic design – produce or project manage designed promotion online and offline materials e.g. social media visuals, posters, banners, event staging, etc;
  • provide graphic design and formatting support for programme and acquisition teams e.g., reports, briefs, templates.
  • Email marketing – support the SPARK Communications Team in monitoring SPARK’s newsletter mailing list, designing and creating monthly newsletters for external and internal audiences;
  • Event coordination –support/lead the organisation of programme related events and conferences together with partner institutions;
  • Media relations – support the development of SPARK’s journalist database, proactively seek media opportunities and write copy for pitches and press releases;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Skills

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree, preferably in English, Media, Communications, Journalism or a field relevant to SPARK’s work;
  • 4-5 years relevant work experience;
  • Work experience in some/all of the programme countries will be considered an asset;
  • Proficient in Arabic and English languages;
  • Exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content;
  • Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team;
  • Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent IT skills, including Advanced Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint;
  • Proven graphic design skills and knowledge of Canva and Adobe skills;
  • Proven experience in organising events/workshops;
  • Proven experience in partnership management and working with multiple stakeholders;
  • Journalistic skills: not afraid of picking up the phone;
  • Social media knowledge and experience are essential;
  • Familiarity with Google Drive/Docs/Analytics etc.;
  • Good communication and social skills and the ability to work in a multicultural setting;
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise;
  • Ability to work independently.;
