24 Months Fixed Term Contract

The starting salary package for this position is £44,172.60 GBP per annum (approx. $55,900 USD) including all allowances

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the Ukraine Programme:

Since the Russian invasion of 24th February 2022, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missile and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response. MAG responded to the crisis in 2022 and now employs over 100 staff in our Ukraine programme, in a range of operational and support/administrative activities with further scale-up expected before the end of 2023. The programme has representation in Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Kropyvnytskyi, and will continue to expand in 2024 into new areas.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and play a key role in the further development of the MAG Ukraine programme. Reporting to the Programme Advisor, the Senior Programme Officer will provide in-country grant administration and grant management. You will act as the key in-country focal point for donors, MAG UK colleagues, local partners and coordination bodies, and produce high quality funding proposals and reports to support the development of the programme and ensure that MAG is able to respond to needs in Ukraine as effectively as possible.

The post holder will be a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), providing strategic input in coordination with other SMT members into the direction and orientation of the programme.

About you:

You will have proven experience of developing and supporting projects, working with complex grants and managing a small team of dedicated professionals. Research skills are essential to the success of this role as is the ability to work in a dynamic and multi-cultural team. Experience of working overseas on development or humanitarian projects is required. You should be able to demonstrate excellent report and proposal writing skills and be skilled in project design and planning. You will be committed to humanitarian and capacity building principles and prepared to professionally represent and promote MAG on multiple levels. Excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills are a requirement. Fluent English language skills are essential for this role, knowledge of Ukrainian would be seen as advantageous but not required.

Knowledge of relevant institutional donors, with an understanding of their needs and requirements would be highly desirable for this role. As is understanding of legal issues in relation to contracts and charity and company law. A passion and demonstrable experience of working on cross cutting initiatives such as Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Safeguarding would be desirable.
