The Opportunity

The position holder will provide strategic leadership and management oversight over a number of field offices/national projects as part of the country office growing portfolio. S/he will be responsible for ensuring high quality program design and delivery at the field offices/national projects governorates aligned with the Country Strategic Plans and SCI global strategic directions. The Senior Program Manager is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, implementing, monitoring and reporting of all national projects (including sponsorship) and projects implemented through the field offices. S/He will be responsible for liaison and coordination between the respective departments in the Country Office, national projects/field offices teams and the internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient implementation.

The post holder will play a key role in building capacity of the program staff and partners at field level, and in the effective scale up and integration of Save the Children programmes to increase impact and enable positive change for children. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with other departments leads is a key requirement for the position.

Extensive travel to field locations in Alexandria and Minia and Assuit Upper Egypt is required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Extensive and demonstrable program/project management experience. Experience in one to two SCI thematic areas such as Child Protection, Education, Health and or Livelihoods and Social Protection will be highly regarded.
  • Minimum of 7 years with progressively responsible experience working with INGOs/NGOs/development actors
  • Post graduate or Master’s degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • Skills and experience in project/programme implementation, monitoring, review and evaluation including budget development and management that is informed by strong understanding of institutional donors’ requirements and compliance conditions.
  • Substantial people management experience with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels
  • Excellent knowledge of the local and national institutions and stakeholders
  • Successful representation experience with key stakeholders and co-ordination with other INGOs/NGOs/UN
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Experience of supporting MEAL systems in large complex programmes
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult working circumstances.
  • Proven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic level
  • Ability to plan for and manage competing priorities
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SCI. In particular, a good understanding of the SCI mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support

Desirable

  • Previous work experience with Save the Children or Sponsorship
